Red Hat’s Global Engineering team is looking for a Software Engineer to join the Agentic and AI Engineering Tools team to develop new APIs, tooling, and providers in the upstream Llama Stack project. You’ll contribute to Red Hat’s AI/ML product family, responsible for the design, development, and refinement of software that enables creation and deployment of generative AI models.
The ideal candidate has a proven background in developing and testing Python solutions within an AI/ML context, adheres to coding best practices, writes well-documented and efficient code, builds upstream unit and E2E tests, maintains up-to-date documentation, follows security best practices, participates in code reviews, and stays current with software engineering technologies and methodologies.
What You Will Do
* Collaborate with Senior Engineers, Product Management, and User Experience to develop features fulfilling customer needs and use cases.
* Develop and implement comprehensive unit, integration, and end-to-end tests to guarantee reliability and performance in the upstream project; maintain CI/CD workflows in GitHub and ensure downstream quality.
* Participate in AI-assisted code reviews, using tools that provide real-time feedback, identify potential bugs, security vulnerabilities, and adherence to coding standards.
* Proactively utilize AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code) for code generation, auto-completion, and intelligent suggestions to accelerate development cycles and improve code quality.
* Create and maintain clear upstream technical documentation including API references and user guides, collaborating with internal tech writers for robust downstream documentation.
* Develop robust AI/ML software tools to enable AI application development and contribute to a healthy open source community.
What You Will Bring
* 3 years of Python development experience as a Software Engineer in Open Source communities with knowledge/interest in AI/ML
* Experience designing and implementing tests that thoroughly exercise code quality and coverage
* Knowledge of AI and Machine Learning platforms, tools, and frameworks (e.g., LlamaStack, LangChain, PyTorch, LLaMA.cpp, vLLM, LangGraph, Kubeflow)
* Experience creating automation for GitHub, using GitHub Actions or related CI tools
* Experience developing unit, functional, and end-to-end (E2E) test cases and automation
* Ability to quickly learn and use new tools and technologies
The Following Will Be Considered a Plus
* Understanding of DevOps methodology, Scrum, and/or Jira
* Knowledge with Security, Observability, Performance or Scale
* Knowledge of Kubernetes/OpenShift and containers
* Knowledge and interest in developing tools and solutions using RAG or Agentic workflows
* Bachelor's degree in computer science or related discipline
