The Role of an Infection Prevention Specialist
About the Job:
* We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Infection Prevention Specialist to join our team.
As an Infection Prevention Specialist, you will play a key role in monitoring and preventing hospital-acquired infections. Your responsibilities will include investigating outbreaks of infection, advising on isolation techniques, identifying health promotion priorities for patients, families and carers, and providing safe and comprehensive nursing care to service users.
Key Responsibilities:
* Infection Surveillance: Monitor and investigate hospital-acquired infections to identify trends and areas for improvement.
* Isolation Techniques: Advise on appropriate isolation techniques to prevent the spread of infection.
* Health Promotion: Identify health promotion priorities for patients, families and carers, and provide support to promote healthy behaviors.
* Quality Improvement: Evaluate prevention/control measures and advise on continuous improvement to reduce the risk of hospital-acquired infections.
You will be responsible for managing your own caseload and participating in teams, meetings and committees as appropriate. You will also communicate with patients, families and carers to understand their values and decisions related to their condition.
Eligibility Criteria:
* Be a registered nurse/midwife on the active Register of Nurses or Midwives held by An Bord Altranais agus Cnimhseachais na hireann (NMBI / Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland).
* Have successfully completed a post-registration programme of study, as certified by the education provider, which verifies that the applicant has achieved a Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI), National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) major academic Level 8 or higher award relevant to the specialist area of Infection Prevention & Control.
* Have a minimum of 5 years post-registration full-time experience or an aggregate of 5 years full-time experience in the general division of nursing.
* Have a minimum of 2 years experience or an aggregate of 2 years full-time experience in the specialist area of Infection Prevention & Control, demonstrating significant depth and breadth of experience in the area of Infection, Prevention & Control.
