Laboratory Technician – Microbiology

Role Profile
Based in Ballyragget and reporting to the QC Laboratory Manager, the role will involve working with a dedicated team of technicians, Quality Managers and related staff to carry out a range of microbiological and chemical analysis of food products. Candidates with experience or aptitude in microbiology will be considered. The position operates on a shift basis.
Responsibilities
Analysis of a range of dairy products including cheese, butter, dairy powders and in‑process samples using approved microbiological methods.
Microbiological methods including traditional plate, ISO etc and rapid micro.
Microbiological testing of water.
Preparation of culture media.
Ensure compliance to the internationally recognised accreditation standard (ISO 17025).
Successful implementation and participation in internal and external proficiency testing.
Using LIMS to carry out all lab activities.
Review and document lab investigations as part of the Tirlán CAPA programme.
Sample management: sampling, receipt, preparation.
Adhere to the Tirlán health and safety policies and contribute to its improvements.
Act as training officer when required.
Maintain stock of media and lab consumables.
Undertake other QC‑related duties as required.
Requirements
Third level qualification in Food Science, Science or a related discipline.
A strong communicator and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Good IT skills including Microsoft Office and LIMS system.
Ability to interpret test data and problem‑solving skills.
Good organisational ability.
Desire to undertake further relevant training and improvement.
Proven ability to work with own initiative and within a team.
Experience in project management and instrument qualification.
Experience of LIMS, statistical analysis, Lean Manufacturing and 5S an advantage.
Previous experience working in an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory would be an advantage.
