The Dietary Aide is responsible for assisting in the preparation and serving of meals to residents or patients in a healthcare or long-term care facility. This role supports the dietary team by ensuring that food is served according to dietary requirements and guidelines, maintaining a clean and safe dining environment, and providing excellent customer service to residents and patients. The Dietary Aide plays an essential role in promoting health and well-being through nutritious meals.
Key Responsibilities:
* Meal Preparation and Service:
o Assist in preparing and serving meals according to established menus and dietary guidelines, including special diets such as diabetic, low-sodium, or gluten-free.
o Ensure that food is served in an attractive and timely manner, following portion control and resident preferences.
o Prepare food trays, deliver meals to residents or patients, and assist with food delivery to common areas or individual rooms as needed.
* Dietary Compliance:
o Follow dietary instructions for residents or patients with specific medical needs, ensuring that meals meet their nutritional requirements.
o Ensure proper portion sizes and follow meal plans to accommodate dietary restrictions and preferences.
* Sanitation and Safety:
o Maintain cleanliness and sanitation in the kitchen and dining areas, including washing dishes, cleaning tables, and sanitizing equipment.
o Follow all food safety regulations and facility policies to ensure a clean and safe environment for food preparation and service.
o Ensure that kitchen and dining areas meet local, state, and federal food safety regulations.
* Inventory and Supplies:
o Assist in maintaining and restocking food supplies, condiments, and utensils as needed.
o Monitor inventory levels and notify the dietary supervisor when supplies need to be ordered.
* Resident and Patient Interaction:
o Provide excellent customer service to residents, patients, and families, responding to questions and special requests promptly and courteously.
o Help residents and patients with meal-related needs, such as serving beverages, providing additional utensils, or addressing dietary concerns.
* Team Collaboration:
o Work closely with cooks, dietary supervisors, and other kitchen staff to ensure the efficient and smooth operation of meal service.
o Assist with kitchen duties, including food preparation and setup for meals.
Qualifications
* Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
* Experience: Previous experience in food service or a healthcare environment is preferred but not required. On-the-job training will be provided.
* Skills:
o Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
o Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally with residents, staff, and visitors.
o Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks.
o Basic understanding of food safety and sanitation procedures.
