About Common Knowledge

Common Knowledge is a non profit social enterprise based in the Burren. We teach practical skills for a sustainable future through hands on courses, community programmes and collaborative projects. Each year we work with thousands of people who want to build, make, repair and grow their way into a more resilient and connected life.

We have a vibrant site and a growing national profile. As we enter our next phase, we want to be more consistent, intentional and effective in how we tell our story and convert that interest into participation - whether that's to someone looking for a course, to take part in a community project, a venue for their next event or a volunteering opportunity.

About the Role

The Marketing and Content Manager has ownership of marketing planning, coordination and performance at Common Knowledge. As a non-profit social enterprise that primarily sells online, this role is responsible for setting direction, prioritising effort and ensuring that marketing activity delivers against agreed objectives, particularly in terms of course bookings and income generation to support our mission-driven activity.

This is not a purely marketing or content creation role. It is a leadership role with a hands-on dimension for someone that can bring together the strengths of marketing, storytelling and practical content creation in a purpose-driven and results-oriented environment.

Core Areas of Responsibility

1. Performance Marketing for Sustainable Income Generation & Participation

You will lead the planning and coordination of marketing activity that supports participation and income at Common Knowledge, with a primary focus on courses and a secondary focus on the venue hire offering. The aim is to help more people access our programmes while strengthening the financial sustainability of the organisation.

Responsibilities include:

* Developing and maintaining a clear, always on marketing strategy & plan for promoting our offerings across organic and paid channels as appropriate
* Acting as the internal lead for external performance marketing support and ensuring work aligns with our values and priorities
* Managing our website, improving landing pages and booking journeys to make it easier for people to find, understand and book our courses
* Shaping simple follow up journeys, reminders and abandoned interest flows that support conversion without pressure
* Reviewing performance against agreed indicators such as course occupancy and event attendance, Cost Per Acquisition and Return On Ad Spend
* Using insight and data to refine approaches, focus effort and support informed decision making

2. Always On Storytelling and Content Systems

You will establish a sustainable rhythm of storytelling that speaks to the possibilities, value and relevance of learning and community at Common Knowledge whilst connecting with the problems that people are facing. The focus is on inspiration, consistency and systems rather than real time broadcasting pressure.

Responsibilities include:

* Creating and maintaining a clear, multichannel content plan by week and by month
* Managing content across social media, email and web channels
* Curating and organising our existing photo and video archive into a usable asset bank
* Developing simple playbooks and guardrails so staff can confidently capture content
* Ensuring all content reflects our values and presents Common Knowledge as practical, welcoming and contemporary
* Managing the newsletter and supporting growth of our email audience

3. Campaign Moments, Brand and Coordination

You will lead on the planning and coordination of key campaign moments that tell the wider story of Common Knowledge and support major milestones.

Responsibilities include:

* Planning key storytelling or campaign moments each year
* Coordinating creative assets, messaging and timing across channels
* Working with designers, press, the team and stakeholders where needed
* Ensuring campaigns support both awareness and longer term audience growth
* Producing clear monthly and quarterly reporting with insight and recommended actions
* Acting as the main point of contact for external marketing and creative partners

You will also play a key role in ensuring marketing ways of working are realistic for a small, busy team, with simple approval processes and clear priorities.

What Success Looks Like in Year One

* A clear 12 month marketing plan in place and actively used
* Increased course occupancy through improved conversion and consistency
* Increased awareness of and participation in projects
* A sustainable always on storytelling rhythm established
* Campaign moments delivered calmly and on time
* Clear reporting that supports decision making rather than noise

Who We Are Looking For

Experience and Background

You will have experience in marketing, communications or digital marketing, with exposure to performance marketing and campaign planning. You may have worked in a social enterprise, non profit, cultural organisation, agency or mission driven business.

You do not need to be an expert in every channel, but you should be confident working with external specialists and comfortable owning the overall system.

Mindset and Approach

* Strategic, organised and calm under pressure
* Comfortable balancing creativity with numbers and performance
* Able to build systems rather than rely on constant firefighting
* Collaborative and practical, able to work with busy teams
* Values aligned and genuinely interested in community, sustainability and practical skills

* Familiarity with paid social and search advertising, even if execution is handled externally

Why Join Us

This is a rare opportunity to shape how a nationally recognised purpose-driven organisation tells its story and sustains its work. You will join a values driven, creative and ambitious team at a pivotal moment, with the space and trust to build something that that supports people and communities to thrive.

The Hiring Process
