Occupational Therapist – Mental health
The Occupational Therapist will provide assessment, intervention, and rehabilitation services to individuals experiencing mental health difficulties, with the goal of promoting recovery, enhancing occupational functioning, and supporting community integration.
Key Responsibilities of Occupational Therapist
* Conduct comprehensive occupational therapy assessments, considering clients’ mental, emotional, and functional needs.
* Develop and implement individualized, evidence-based intervention plans.
* Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team (MDT) including Psychiatry, Psychology, Nursing, Social Work, and Allied Health colleagues.
* Facilitate individual and group therapeutic programs focused on life skills, vocational activities, leisure, self-care, and community participation.
* Participate in service planning, audit, evaluation, and development initiatives within the Department of Psychiatry.
* Maintain accurate, confidential, and timely clinical records.
* Liaise with families, carers, and community agencies to support clients’ recovery and discharge planning.
* Promote client-centered practice and uphold principles of dignity, respect, and partnership in all interactions.
* Engage in continuing professional development (CPD) activities to maintain professional competence and ensure evidence-based practice.
* Supervise and support the education of Occupational Therapy students on placement, if applicable.
* Contribute to risk assessment, safeguarding, and clinical governance activities as required.
Essential Requirements:
* A recognised qualification in Occupational Therapy (BSc (Hons) or equivalent).
* CORU registration as an Occupational Therapist or eligibility for same.
* Minimum [e.g., 1 year] post-qualification experience (preferably within a mental health setting).
* Knowledge of mental health conditions and current best practice in mental health occupational therapy.
