Commissioning Engineer – ESB
Join ESB as a Commissioning Engineer within the Networks Engineering department, responsible for delivering high voltage substation projects across Ireland. You will work as part of the Commissioning & SCS teams, ensuring equipment meets technical requirements and is fit for connection to the system.
Key Responsibilities
* Operate as a member of the regional commissioning team, travelling across Ireland as needed.
* Lead complex HV substation commissioning projects, ensuring equipment meets all technical specifications.
* Perform and assess all on‑site testing associated with HV commissioning.
* Provide technical support, training and mentorship to new and existing commissioning & design team members.
* Contribute to the development of work instructions and departmental procedures.
* Lead fault investigations, conduct detailed analysis and recommend improvements.
Essential Qualifications
* Minimum 3 years of industry experience in electrical design and layout of HV substations.
* Strong knowledge of HV substation standards and layouts.
* Demonstrated commitment to operational safety and teamwork.
* Strong work ethic focused on delivery of safety, time, quality and cost goals.
* Flexibility in work location and commitment to on‑call commissioning needs.
* Full EU driving licence (or recognised equivalent) for site travel.
Desirable
* Active participation in international engineering organisations (CIGRÉ, IEEE, IET).
* Approved to issue Declaration of Fitness certificates to the system controller.
Location & Working Arrangements
Deployment within one of ESB’s regional HV commissioning teams nationwide. Flexible smart working arrangements with a minimum of one in‑person collaboration day per week.
Reporting
Reports to the relevant Substation Commissioning Team Leader, Networks Engineering, Engineering & Major Projects.

Salary & Closing Date
€48,000 – €56,000 per annum. Closing date: 29th October 2025.
