EIB Trainee – Operations Directorate – Project Finance West Division (Luxembourg)
Join the European Investment Bank (EIB) as a trainee in the Operations Directorate (OPS) – Equity, Growth Capital, and Project Finance Department (EGPF) – Project Finance West Division (4‑PF WEST). This position is based at our Luxembourg headquarters and requires regular office presence.
Duration: 5 months (fixed) – start 1 March 2026 (possible extension up to 6 months if required by university).
Eligibility: Applications are considered only from nationals of EU Member States and citizens from countries officially granted EU candidate status (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, Turkey, and Ukraine). Candidates whose Erasmus+ programme overlaps with the traineeship will not be considered. Applicants are requested to limit submissions to a maximum of three traineeship publications; only the first three applications will be retained.
Objective: The Project Finance West Division originates, structures and executes Project Finance operations in countries such as France, Spain, Portugal, Italy and other European markets. You will support front‑office staff on significant infrastructure and energy investments, gaining hands‑on experience and understanding how the EIB uses private sector instruments to accomplish public policy goals.
Responsibilities
Review project and financial documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance.
Prepare detailed financial analyses and contribute to the review of financial models and credit assessments.
Assist in the preparation of internal approval documents.
Contribute to the preparation of sector studies in areas such as energy, infrastructure, telecommunications, and emerging sub‑sectors (Green H2, critical raw materials, affordable housing, data centres) to consolidate knowledge from previous transactions.
Academic Qualifications & Professional Skills
Final year of studies or university degree in economics, finance, engineering (with finance background).
Good knowledge of financial analysis, corporate finance, business planning.
Knowledge of infrastructure and/or energy sectors and project finance is a plus.
General understanding of main financing products (loans, bonds, subsidies, etc.).
Ability to work independently, meet deadlines and maintain expected quality.
Advanced knowledge of MS Office tools, particularly Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
Excellent written and spoken English and/or French; fluency in Italian and/or Spanish is desirable.
