Mechanical Engineer (Senior, Principal, Senior Principal or Experienced) - Hydropower

Stantec is working on many of the world’s largest, complex and most exciting dams and hydro projects. We are rapidly growing and seek a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic team, working on the design and development of cutting-edge hydropower and pumped storage hydro solutions. This opportunity involves joining a growing multi-disciplinary team involved in varied projects such as Coire Glas (Scotland), Koysha (Ethiopia), and Dinorwig (Wales). Our Mechanical Engineers are responsible for the mechanical engineering elements of solutions and the production of outline and detailed designs to support successful project delivery. Roles are available at various grades depending on experience and qualifications and may support projects in other Stantec sectors including Water and Thermal.

In this role you will work closely with clients as part of a multi-disciplinary design group to undertake technical audits, risk evaluations, develop mechanical design, and liaise with other technical disciplines at feasibility, outline and detailed stages to produce timely and cost-effective solutions. You will develop cost-effective solutions and adopt innovative design approaches in line with the client’s requirements.


Responsibilities

* Contribute to the mechanical design across hydro and pumped storage projects, producing outline and detailed designs.
* Perform technical audits and risk evaluations in collaboration with the project team.
* Liaise with other disciplines to ensure integrated, timely, and cost-effective project delivery.
* Develop cost-effective and innovative design solutions aligned with client requirements.
* Support projects in other sectors within Stantec as needed.


Qualifications

* Chartered or Incorporated status with IMechE is preferred or working towards it.
* Degree qualified (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or a related subject.
* Ability to plan and prioritise workload effectively.
* Experience in design and specification of mechanical systems in an industrial context.
* Experience with rotating machinery.
* Knowledge and skills in planning, specification, design, procurement and commissioning of mechanical equipment for projects in the energy sector.
* Competent user of 3D modelling software (e.g., Revit or AutoCAD); experience in BIM environment and hydropower applications is desirable.
* Experience with pump and large-bore valve specification and selection; familiarity with balance of plant and systems commonly found in hydropower (e.g., HVAC, cooling water, oil recovery, hydraulic control systems, governors, fire suppression, mechanical services) is advantageous.
