This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious candidate who wants to progress within Ireland’s fastest growing professional services firm. The role involves providing VAT support to Directors and Partners on tax advisory and liaising with Irish and international clients on VAT issues. A relevant tax, legal, or accountancy qualification and a minimum of five years’ experience in a professional tax, legal, or accountancy environment working within VAT is preferred.

Due to growth in the VAT department, an opportunity has arisen for a VAT Assistant Manager to join the VAT tax team.


Key Responsibilities

* Work with partners and directors to develop and grow the firm’s indirect tax service offering.
* Use VAT legislation and relevant case law to advise on indirect tax structuring and advisory projects.
* Coordinate with the Grant Thornton international network on queries arising to the Irish firm.
* Delegate work to and manage junior team members.
* Manage a wide portfolio of clients spanning multiple industries.
* Manage budgeting and ensure targets are met.


Key Skills & Attributes

* Excellent understanding of Irish VAT legislation and the EU VAT Directive.
* Extensive experience advising on all aspects of VAT (RCT and customs experience is advantageous).
* Strong tax technical skills, with the ability to interpret and apply complex VAT legislation, guidance, and case law to client scenarios and advisory work.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; confident in dealing with clients.
* Self-starter with initiative and strong time-management skills.
* Attention to detail and accuracy; strong organizational abilities with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to work independently and within a global team.


Experience & Qualifications

* Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Law, Accounting, or related field (preferred).
* Tax or accounting qualification with a minimum of 4–5 years’ post-qualification experience.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office tools, including Power BI.
* Familiarity with financial systems, controls, and reporting processes (advantageous).
* Experience with ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, SAP, Microsoft Dynamics 365, Oracle) and tax compliance software (e.g., Vertex, Avalara, OneSource) is advantageous.
