Charter Medical Private Hospital (CMPH) is a 77-bed surgical hospital located on the outskirts of Mullingar with four operating theatres and an endoscopy unit.
We provide a wide range of surgical care across multiple specialties and offer 24/7 Stepdown, Minor Injuries, and Rapid Access services in collaboration with the HSE.
We are currently recruiting for a IT Senior Systems Administrator to join our team.
Role Summary
The IT Senior Systems Administrator is responsible for supporting, maintaining and optimising the hospital's IT infrastructure, ensuring reliable delivery of clinical and operational systems.
The role covers Microsoft 365 administration, Active Directory, networking, endpoint security, and support for clinical systems including nurse call and communication devices.
The post holder provides Level 1–3 technical support, ensures system uptime in a fast-paced healthcare environment, and contributes to IT service improvement, digital transformation, cybersecurity and compliance with data protection standards.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Systems Administration
Administer and maintain Microsoft 365, Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive and associated compliance/security policies.
Manage Active Directory users, groups, login permissions and role-based access controls.
Configure and monitor Microsoft Defender and endpoint protection tools.
Support nurse call systems, clinical communication devices, patient monitoring connectivity and other clinical equipment integrations.
Maintain all hospital desktops, laptops, mobile devices, printers, scanners and clinical workstations on wheels (WOWs/COWs).
Manage IT asset lifecycle, warranty status, stock levels and hardware inventory.
Networking & Infrastructure
Support LAN/WAN infrastructure including switches, VLANs, Wi-Fi access points and network routing.
Troubleshoot DNS, DHCP, IP addressing, VPN access, and secure remote connectivity.
Ensure uptime for critical clinical and administrative systems.
IT Service Delivery & Support
Provide Level 1–3 support, prioritising clinical-critical incidents.
Log, track and resolve issues using the hospital's IT ticketing system.
Escalate complex issues to third-line engineers or external vendors.
Collaborate with clinical, administrative and operational teams to resolve technology-related problems.
Security, Compliance & Data Protection
Monitor alerts, vulnerabilities and incidents via Microsoft Defender and other security platforms.
Ensure all devices meet standards for patching, encryption, antivirus protection and compliance.
Support disaster recovery, downtime procedures and business continuity planning.
Adhere to policies governing GDPR, HIPAA alignment, patient data protection and information governance.
Collaboration, Communication & Stakeholder Support
Liaise regularly with clinical staff, maintenance engineering, external vendors and IT colleagues.
Support IT elements of hospital projects, upgrades, audits and equipment deployments.
Participate in departmental meetings, service improvement initiatives and operational planning.
Quality, Continuous Improvement & Innovation
Identify opportunities to improve IT processes, workflows and system performance.
Contribute to digital transformation including adoption of new technologies.
Maintain awareness of hospital technology trends, cybersecurity developments and sector expectations.
Other Responsibilities
Support generation of activity reports, security summaries and asset statistics.
Participate in on-call or after-hours support where required.
Perform any additional duties as required in line with departmental needs.
Essential Criteria - Knowledge/ Experience
2–4+ years' experience in IT support or systems administration.
Strong experience with Microsoft 365 and Active Directory.
Solid understanding of networking technologies (LAN/WAN, VLANs, Wi-Fi, DNS, DHCP, VPN).
Experience supporting desktops, laptops, printers and mobile devices.
Experience with endpoint protection tools and security monitoring.
Experience in healthcare IT systems desirable.
Ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced clinical setting.
Relevant IT certifications (Microsoft, networking, security)
