Reporting to the Head Of Finance Record to Report, this role will be responsible for delivering financial and management information to all internal and external stakeholders. This role will focus predominantly on accounting and reporting for Operating Costs. Operating costs in this instance include UKI Central and Retail related Costs, Payroll/ Reward costs, Direct and Indirect Tax cost as well as Separately Disclosed Items (SDI) for the Group. This will include being involved in the management of specific operating expenses and the reporting of monthly results with analysis.
The role will provide leadership through clear communication of responsibilities, guidance when required, training and development where appropriate and proactive performance management.
What You’ll Do
* Assist with the production of month-end numbers for Operating Costs.
* Collaborate and communicate effectively with various UKI and Corporate Commercial Finance teams.
* Operate a robust cost accruals process to ensure costs are accurately accrued within the time constraints of a fast-close environment.
* Review significant variances for areas of responsibility, flagging key variances in advance of close.
* Ensure SDI accounting and reporting aligns with Group Policy.
* Attend month-end close meetings to deliver timely updates.
* Standardise and automate month-end tasks to improve efficiency.
* Ensure balance sheet reconciliations across the team are prepared and reviewed within set deadlines, aligning with Group Policy.
* Engage proactively with assigned budget owners to refine processes and procedures around monthly accruals.
* Complete all internal controls requirements with precision.
* Provide all US GAAP quarterly reporting requirements.
* Ensure sufficient evidence and documentation to align with SOX standards.
* Continuously review and improve processes and procedures in light of system changes and business requirements.
* Document processes and procedures to ensure robustness.
* Participate actively in cross-training initiatives.
* Collaborate with the team on various ad hoc tasks.
* Mentor and develop staff, encouraging a culture of growth and excellence.
* Deliver timely and accurate financial information to Commercial Finance and Group Reporting teams.
* Assist in the production of Budgets and Forecasts, ensuring completeness of monthly accounts and supporting commercial decision-making.
* Provide accurate financial information to internal Tax teams for the preparation of Tax returns.
* Engage proactively with internal and external audits.
* Support related teams within Finance to produce outstanding results for the overall team.
* Work with internal controls to ensure compliance with SOX standards.
* Collaborate with the Polaris transformation team as required.
* Provide management support and development to the accounting team where necessary.
What You’ll Need
* Proven collaborator with excellent team-playing skills – adaptable, proactive, and effective in a fast-paced environment.
* Outstanding analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills.
* Strong communicator capable of dealing effectively with individuals from non-finance backgrounds.
* Resilient and adept at managing high volumes of data in a highly automated environment.
* Meticulous and well-organized with a drive for continuous improvement.
* Recognized Accounting qualification.
* Minimum of 5+ years of experience in a similar environment with a proven track record in financial reporting and analysis.
* Consistent delivery in similar roles with a history of process improvement implementation.
* Experience with Oracle ERP or similar financial systems is an advantage.
* Excellent MS Office skills, particularly Excel.
