Senior Clinical Scientist Position
This role requires a strategic approach to the development of services and structures, embracing continuous quality improvement and technological development. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in laboratory work and experience working with prion diseases, category 3 biosafety regulations, neurodegenerative disorders, histopathology techniques, and ISO15189 accreditation.
The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the Irish National Creutzfeldt Jacob Disease Surveillance Unit service while further developing the scope of clinical testing within both the Neuropathology and Histopathology Departments. They will also participate in training staff, ensure compliance with international and national guidelines, and actively participate in internal and external quality control.

About the Role:
- Perform clinical laboratory work to the highest professional standards as determined by the Consultant in Charge/Chief Medical Scientist.
- Participate in training staff as required.
- Ensure compliance with International and National Guidelines and standards for the provision of a Histology Laboratory service.
- Actively participate in and promote continuing education and research activities consistent with the position.
- To actively participate in the Department's continued commitment to accreditation to ISO15189.
Key Responsibilities:
* Support the Irish National Creutzfeldt Jacob Disease Surveillance Unit service.
* Further develop the scope of clinical testing within both the Neuropathology and Histopathology Departments.
* Participate in training staff as required.
* Ensure compliance with International and National Guidelines and standards for the provision of a Histology Laboratory service.
* Actively participate in and promote continuing education and research activities consistent with the position.
* To actively participate in the Department's continued commitment to accreditation to ISO15189.
Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science (Honours) in a degree applicable to the position which includes Anatomy and Physiology or that which is deemed relevant to the position.
- NFQ Level 9 post graduate qualification or equivalent qualification at minimum Level 9 which is deemed relevant to the position.
- Four years full time experience (or an aggregate of four years' experience) in a Laboratory since qualifying as a scientist.
- Demonstrate evidence of Continuous Professional Development.
- Requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability and management ability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the office.
