Job Description Summary

Medication Management Solutions (MMS) is seeking a Human Factors Engineer to focus on Human Factors and User Experience Design (HF+UXD). The ideal candidate is passionate about designing for user experience with proven capabilities in visual design, information architecture, and interaction design for standalone software and integrated software/hardware solutions. They will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and conduct user research to drive the human factors engineering process.


About the Role

This role is part of the User Experience Design Team (UXD). The HF+UXD Engineer will lead and support human factors activities from concept through regulatory submission, including user research, usability testing, task analyses, cognitive walkthroughs, and documentation for regulatory compliance.


Main Responsibilities

* Apply creative problem‑solving strategies and techniques to launch tactical, innovative, and disruptive ideas.
* Seek to create the best possible product by balancing customer needs, business constraints, and technical capabilities.
* Understand business goals and link them to design directions and product architecture.
* Lead brainstorming and ideation sessions, report outs to stakeholders, and innovation research.
* Conduct task analyses, usability audits, and cognitive walkthroughs; analyze results and provide recommendations.
* Collaborate with interface designers, engineers, marketing, and business leaders to define detailed designs that meet customer needs.
* Advocate for user needs and drive design recommendations based on usability standards and best practices.
* Plan and execute formative and summative usability studies.
* Analyze data and compile study findings for multidisciplinary teams.
* Author HFE documentation for the Usability Engineering File for regulatory submissions.
* Establish relationships with third‑party vendors for usability study recruitment and coordination.
* Manage human factors activities across various projects and provide schedules and status to management.
* Participate in cross‑functional core team meetings to ensure usability requirements are met.
* Develop and evangelize a culture of design focused on the experience of the user and patient.
* Teach human factors processes to cross‑functional project teams and leaders.
* Lead and coordinate all human factors activities necessary to complete a major product development program or several small projects.
* Lead efforts to develop processes and procedures that align with FDA/international human factors standards.
* Provide technical supervision to less experienced human factors engineers and manage a small workgroup.


About You

* 10+ years of experience in product development applying Human Factors Engineering in a regulated environment.
* Bachelor’s degree in Human Factors Engineering, Human‑Computer Interaction, Human‑Centered Design, Cognitive Psychology, Industrial Design, or related discipline (Master’s preferred).
* Working knowledge of IEC 62366‑1, FDA Human Factors Guidance (2016), IEC 62366‑2, HE75, ISO 13485, FDA Design Controls, ISO 14971.
* Proven track record developing and executing usability studies.
* Experience in HFE principles and methodologies.
* Experience applying human factors techniques across the product lifecycle.
* Experience planning and conducting usability studies and performing use‑related risk analysis.
* Ability and willingness to travel (≈10% of the time).


Preferred

* Master’s Degree or Ph.D. in a technical field (human‑computer interaction, systems engineering, human factor engineering, mechanical engineering, industrial design, or biomedical engineering).
* Highly motivated self‑starter with minimal guidance.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Strong creative, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
* Strong technical judgment, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
* Strong facilitation and analytic skills with an open mind.
* Proficient knowledge of engineering first principles.
* Understanding of the End‑to‑End Product Development Process.
* Proficiency in at least one of: Sketching or Graphic Design; 3D Modeling, Drafting, and Physical Prototyping (SolidWorks); Wireframing and Digital Prototyping (Adobe XD, Axure); Technology Development in mechanics, electrical, or software engineering.
* Demonstrated creation of new concepts and Intellectual Property (IP).
