Our proactive career planning ensures that your performance is recognised and offers various ways to fuel your growth towards exceptional achievements.We are now recruiting for a Service Technician - for a permanent role in Portlaoise, Co.Laois.JOB PURPOSEAs a Sandvik Service Technician based at our Portlaoise workshops, you will play a critical role in supporting the maintenance, repair and optimization of Sandvik underground and surface mining equipment across Ireland.
Your primary responsibility will be to ensure that our customers' machinery operates at peak performance by conducting diagnostics, performing scheduled servicing and executing mechanical and electrical repairs.
Working closely with the local service team & our customers and adhering to Sandvik's high standards of safety and quality, you will contribute to minimizing downtime and enhancing operational efficiency for our customer base.
This role demands a proactive approach to problem-solving, strong technical expertise, team work, positive/collaborate attitude and a commitment to delivering exceptional customer service in a dynamic and demanding environment.MAIN RESPONSIBILITIESMaintenance and Servicing Equipment.Plan for correct tools and parts required to perform tasks, according to all work procedures.Commissioning of products that includes pre-delivery inspections and hot (operational and at customer site) commissioning.Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) to identify and solve common problems, as a first line support.Identify components, understand basic functionality, and conduct maintenance and repair work accordingly.
This includes the provision of preventive and cost-efficient repairs.Support the customer's product/equipment/processes by suggesting possible improvements.
(According to sales area requirements.)Uses knowledge and experience to solve standard problems for customers.Understands system functionality and interactions of hydraulics/mechanics/electrics/automation/pneumatics/materials.Complete maintenance reports for internal and external stakeholders e.g., report and document on maintenance and/or repairs completed.
Obtain customer authorization to invoice.Occasionally collect technical feedback in Sales Area (inputted into Database).
Assign simple tasks to junior staff and guide them in their completion.Coach customer technicians on basic servicing and maintenance principles.Ensure that all routine work procedures (using the tools provided), are carried out according to safety standards.Other ad hoc duties as requested by management.Experience We are seeking a skilled and experienced professional with a strong background in heavy plant machinery, hydraulic systems, and electrical diagnostics.
The ideal candidate will haveMinimum 3–5 years' hands-on experience working with heavy construction or agricultural machinery (e.g., excavators, loaders, telehandlers, etc.).
Proven expertise in hydraulic system maintenance and fault finding, including pumps, valves, cylinders, and hoses.Solid understanding of electrical systems, including wiring, sensors, control units, and CAN bus diagnostics.Experience using diagnostic tools and software to troubleshoot and repair faults efficiently.Familiarity with preventive maintenance schedules and service documentation.Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and engineering drawings.Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues.Education, Licenses & Certificates You are educated to degree level or equivalent.
Ability to take on and manage tasks and topics with a focus on developing the business and improving current practices and procedures within the operations.
A full clean driving licence as travel may be required from time to time and willingness to travel to customer sites when required.
