Offer Description

Applications are invited for a temporary post of a UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 within UCD School of Public Health, Physiotherapy and Sports Sciences.

Chemicals are an intricate part of our daily lives that have societal and economic benefits but are also associated with significant adverse environmental and human health issues, which is particularly important with the global chemical production expected to double by 2030. Human biomonitoring (HBM) is described as the 'gold standard' of chemical risk assessment tools and provides a systematic assessment of the chemical exposure levels occurring from all routes of exposure (e.g. dietary, water intake, air). Several EU countries have well-established national HBM programmes (e.g. Germany, Belgium) that have demonstrated the potential for HBM to protect the environment and public health. The HBM4IE (Human Biomonitoring for Ireland) study will conduct a national human biomonitoring programme, collecting blood and urine from participants in Ireland and evaluate environmental exposures among the general public for 10 chemical groups. The position requires the candidate to contribute to the national HBM programme and collaborate with international partners of the Partnership for the Assessment of Risks from Chemicals, which is a multinational European project involving close to 200 institutions working in the areas of the environment or public health from 29 countries.

PD1 Salary: €46,305 - €52,863 Per Annum
