Leading, coaching, and growing a high-performing Trading team, promoting collaboration, ownership, and continuous improvement. Owning the Trading function P&L, ensuring strong budget control and effective cost management. Managing and strengthening supplier relationships, leading negotiations on Joint Business Plans (JBP) and Long-Term Agreements (LTA). Spotting new commercial opportunities and driving innovation across categories to grow performance and enhance the customer proposition. Ensuring pricing, range architecture, and seasonal activity remain competitive and aligned to customer expectations. Using data, insight, and market intelligence to guide decision-making, optimise results, and stay ahead of trends. Maintaining high standards of governance, ensuring trading activity meets company policy, regulatory requirements, and ethical standards. Partnering with senior stakeholders and cross-functional teams (Supply Chain, Marketing, Finance) to align trading priorities with wider business goals. Leading change initiatives and process enhancements to improve efficiency and support scalability in a fast-moving environment. Experience required for this Head of Buying - Food job include: Minimum 5+ years' experience in a senior Trading, Buying, or Category Management role within FMCG retail. Demonstrated success in delivering commercial growth and managing complex category portfolios. Strong negotiation and stakeholder management experience, with a proven ability to influence suppliers and internal teams. High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint); experience with Power BI and SAP is highly desirable. Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate performance data into clear, strategic actions. In-depth understanding of market dynamics, customer behaviour, and competitor activity. Highly organised, with strong prioritisation skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Passionate about driving innovation and delivering value for customers and the business. Willingness to travel occasionally as required.
