Senior Robotics Engineer – Custom Automation & Robotic Systems

A leading provider of advanced automation and robotics solutions is looking for a Senior Robotics Engineer to join their high-performing engineering team. The organisation specialises in the design and integration of bespoke robotic cells for applications including welding, painting, grinding, and material handling.
This is a hands-on technical role offering the opportunity to work across the full project lifecycle—from design and simulation to commissioning and optimisation—within complex manufacturing environments.
Role Overview
You will be responsible for programming, integrating, and optimising robotic systems within custom-built automation cells. This includes leading offline simulations, collaborating across disciplines, and troubleshooting both in-house and on customer sites.
Key Responsibilities
* Design, program, and implement custom robotic systems for industrial automation projects
* Lead cell design and offline simulation (OLP) to validate layouts and system performance
* Integrate robotics with vision systems for guidance, positioning, and inspection
* Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and controls teams to ensure system functionality
* Troubleshoot and optimise robotic performance, both onsite and remotely
* Prepare and maintain technical documentation including design specs and test reports
* Manage tasks to ensure on-time, on-budget project delivery
* Mentor junior engineers and support skill development across the team
* Report on project activity and maintain accurate project status documentation
* Ensure compliance with all relevant safety and quality standards
Qualifications and Experience
* Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
* Minimum 5 years of hands-on robotic programming experience using platforms such as KUKA KRL/WorkVisual, FANUC Karel/Roboguide, or ABB RAPID/RobotStudio
* Minimum 3 years of experience with OLP simulation tools (e.g. Visual Components, Process Simulate)
* Experience with PLC programming or machine vision systems is an advantage
* Strong knowledge of robotic welding is highly desirable
* Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
* Ability to work effectively both independently and within a cross-functional team
