Resident Engineer (Bridge Rehabilitation) Location: County Mayo Sector: Civil Engineering / Bridge Construction & Rehabilitation Employment Type: 12-month contract commencing June 2026 Salary: Based on experience Additional: Contractor vehicle provided Role introduction and overview: An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Resident Engineer to join a large international engineering consultancy with offices throughout Ireland on a bridge construction and rehabilitation project across 10 sites in County Mayo. This is a site-based engineering role suited to candidates with strong experience in bridge works, structural rehabilitation, construction supervision, inspection, and contract administration. Working within the civil engineering and infrastructure sector, the successful candidate will support the delivery of construction and rehabilitation works involving masonry, concrete and steel structures. You will form part of a 2-person site team, working alongside a Senior Resident Engineer, while liaising with the Employer's Representative (ER) and the wider design team as required. This position will suit an engineer who is comfortable overseeing site activities, maintaining project records, monitoring contractor performance, and helping ensure that works are delivered in line with required standards, specifications, and health and safety expectations. Key Responsibilities as Resident Engineer: Carry out site-based supervision, inspection and monitoring of bridge construction and rehabilitation works across 10 project locations Support the oversight of construction activities related to masonry, concrete and steel structures Work closely with the Senior Resident Engineer as part of a 2-person site team Liaise with the ER and design team to help address site queries and technical issues Monitor the Contractor's progress and maintain accurate records of site activities Assist with the administration of construction contracts and related project documentation Prepare and maintain clear reports, records and correspondence in line with project requirements Observe and promote compliance with current health and safety regulations and best practice on site Help ensure works are carried out in accordance with relevant specifications, quality standards and programme requirements Essential Skills, Qualifications and Experience as Resident Engineer Minimum 5 years' relevant post-graduate experience in a Resident Engineer role Proven experience on projects involving the construction, repair and rehabilitation of masonry, concrete and steel structures Civil or Structural Engineering Degree to a minimum Level 8 Strong computer skills, including experience with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Experience in record keeping and reporting on contractor progress Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English Ability to work effectively within a team environment and also use own initiative to achieve project goals Good knowledge of current health and safety regulations and industry best practice Full driving licence valid for driving in Ireland Valid SafePass Experience administering contracts under the Public Works form of contracts would be an advantage How to apply: If you believe this Resident Engineer role aligns with your experience, please apply via the button provided.
