Job Description The purpose of the Head Custodian is to maintain an attractive, sanitary, and safe facility for students, staff, and the public.
A head custodian supervises the cleaning and maintenance of a building.
Duties and Responsibilities Follow job-related instructions given by the Principal/Custodian Foreman.
Oversee minor repairs.
Devise a daily cleaning plan for each office or room, including dusting, vacuuming, washing windows, waxing floors, and shampooing carpets.
Maintain a safe environment for students, staff, visitors, and persons working in the building.
Order necessary materials within the assigned budget.
Keep the building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas, neat and clean.
Open the building at the designated time, ensuring all exit doors are open and panic bolts are working during occupancy.
Secure all doors and windows and turn off unnecessary lights after opening hours.
Clean restrooms and drinking fountains daily according to health regulations.
Clean classrooms and corridors daily.
Remove trash daily; cut grass weekly; trim shrubs as needed.
Care for indoor and outdoor plants and shrubs.
Move furniture and equipment as directed by the Building Manager.
Follow school system rules, policies, and regulations.
Engage in professional growth and demonstrate professional ethics and leadership.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Must have own transportation.
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Valid Alabama Driver's License.
Minimum of 5 years relevant work experience.
Additional Notes The board may require other qualifications.
