The role
We're hiring an
experienced Backend Engineer
with strong
Linux, Python, and database engineering
skills to design, build, and maintain a
self-hosted PostgreSQL environment
supporting long-running, parallelised
HPC workloads
.
You'll work closely with R&D and senior technical leadership on
data models and ETL pipelines
powering an AI-driven crystal structure prediction platform.
What you'll do
* Design, build, and maintain
self-hosted PostgreSQL infrastructure
* Configure and scale databases for
parallel HPC workloads
* Own
backup, recovery, disaster recovery, and data integrity
* Define schemas, tables, permissions, and access controls
* Contribute to
ETL pipeline design and implementation in Python
What we are looking for
* 3+ years
experience in database design, management, backup, recovery, and observability
(e.g. Prometheus, Alembic, Barman, Databasus)
* Strong
PostgreSQL or MySQL
experience (incl. self-hosting)
* Solid
Linux systems
background
* Container experience (
Docker, Podman
)
* Strong
Python
fundamentals and software design principles
* Clear communicator with an ownership mindset
Bonus
* ETL orchestration tools (
Prefect, Dagster, Airflow
)
* Parallel computing or schedulers (
OpenMP, MPI, SLURM
)
