We are looking for a Commis Chef to join our Ballymun production kitchen team, supporting bread, pastry, sandwich, and prepared food production for Coffeeangel cafés.
The Commis Chef is an integral part of the kitchen team, working under the guidance of the Chef de Partie and Kitchen Manager, focusing on foundational food preparation and maintaining high standards of cleanliness and organisation to keep the kitchen running smoothly.
This is an entry-level chef position, earning between €***** and €***** per hour, where you will learn essential culinary skills with shifts that may include early mornings, evenings, and weekends depending on the needs of the production kitchen.
What you'll do
Assist in preparing ingredients and mise en place according to recipes and standards.
Learn and execute basic cooking techniques under supervision.
Prepare simple dishes and components as assigned.
Follow portion control guidelines to minimise waste and maintain consistency in food quality and presentation.
Work collaboratively with kitchen team members and support colleagues during busy periods.
Take direction from the Chef de Partie and senior kitchen staff and communicate clearly about task completion and any issues.
Keep your workstation clean, organised, and well-stocked.
Assist with receiving and proper storage of deliveries and report stock shortages.
Help maintain kitchen equipment in good working order and support efficient service flow during peak times.
Follow all food safety and hygiene protocols strictly, including HACCP procedures and temperature checks.
Wear appropriate protective equipment at all times and report any health and safety concerns immediately.
Participate in ongoing food safety training.
You must be
Genuine interest in cooking and developing your culinary skills.
Able to follow instructions and recipes accurately.
Good organisational skills and strong attention to detail.
Physical stamina to work full shifts on your feet in a busy kitchen.
Willing to learn and accept constructive feedback.
Reliable with good timekeeping.
Basic understanding of kitchen hygiene practices and a commitment to maintaining high standards.
Nice to have
Previous kitchen or hospitality experience, including home or informal settings.
Food safety certification or willingness to obtain it.
Understanding of basic cooking methods and terminology.
Experience working in a team environment.
Flexibility to work varied shifts including weekends.
