Job Description
This position involves a 39‑hour work week, with an hourly rate of €16.12, based at our Fahan location (F93 VR99). The job purpose is to enhance the quality of life of each resident by providing individualized holistic care, promoting independence, and communicating effectively with residents and the multidisciplinary team.
Responsibilities
Deliver quality care to each resident.
Assist residents with intimate and personal care based on assessed needs.
Assist residents with eating and drinking where and when appropriate.
Promote and encourage a normal nutritional diet.
Assist residents with mobilizing.
Assist with diversional therapy (e.g., activities, movement to music).
Assist nursing staff with resident care and the care of the dying.
Be familiar with infection control.
Report any changes in residents’ condition to the senior nurse on duty.
At night ensure residents’ sleep patterns are not unduly disrupted by excess noise or bright lights.
Document any records required during duty.
Provide close supervision day and night to ensure the safety and well‑being of residents.
Be aware of health and safety policies within Nazareth Care Ireland.
Report faulty equipment (e.g., lifting hoists, bath hoists) to your immediate supervisor.
Familiarize yourself with the use of transfer slide sheets and handling belts.
Use hoists only with a second staff member present.
Understand policies and procedures regarding evacuation and fire.
Health & Safety
Due to the high dependency of residents, close supervision day and night is vital for their safety and well‑being.
Be aware of health and safety policies within Nazareth Care Ireland.
Report faulty equipment e.g., lifting hoists, bath hoists, to your immediate supervisor.
Use hoists only with a second staff member present.
Ensure understanding of evacuation and fire procedures.
Skills, Knowledge & Qualifications
Have FETAC Level 5 and/or other relevant training.
Have previous experience of caring for the elderly, preferably in a residential setting.
Adopt a person‑centered approach to care planning.
Experience of working with others in a team setting.
Demonstrate evidence of continuing professional development.
Ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
Be genuinely interested in caring for older people.
Show a positive attitude and be open to changing needs within Nazareth Care Ireland.
Participate in care planning with nursing and other relevant staff.
Be proficient in manual handling and patient moving skills.
