This is a full-time Scientific Research In-Vitro Associate 1 (Microbiologist) role with a fixed-term contract for 12 months to operate under the Technical Services Department for our Microbial Solution Site in Dublin. There is potential to be made permanent following review.
Responsibilities and requirements below reflect the job scope for this position.
Responsibilities
* Perform LAL testing for different studies using a full range of LAL techniques (gel-clot, kinetic, and PTS).
* Perform IQ, OQ, PQ of laboratory equipment (e.g., Biotek, PTS) and maintain appropriate documents.
* Conduct contract testing laboratories for Celsis and LAL, including method development/validation studies, accessory release, CSE/RSE, LAL water, etc., as required.
* Isolate, grow and maintain cultures of bacteria and perform bioburden testing, membrane filtration and cleaning validations as needed.
* Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements (cGMP, FDA, ISO) and to departmental SOPs, safety procedures and biosafety protocols.
* Collaborate on inventory checks of laboratory consumables and assist with housekeeping, equipment maintenance and instrument calibration scheduling.
* Assist management with development and revision of SOPs and qualification documents.
* Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
* Education: Degree in Microbiology, Biology or a related discipline.
* Experience: Established and demonstrable track record in a microbiology laboratory; experience in a cGMP pharmaceutical microbiology environment is preferred.
* Other: Proficiency with Windows-based programs (Word, Excel) and a basic knowledge of algebra.
Physical Demands
* Requires colour vision, close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
* Regularly stationary; may move within the lab/office to access supplies and equipment.
* Good verbal and written communication skills.
* Occasional computer operation and manual handling.
* Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
Work Environment
* Laboratory environment; potential exposure to sharp objects, chemicals, biohazards, fumes or airborne particles, odors and radiation risks.
* Noise level typically quiet to moderate.
* Protective clothing and equipment (lab coat, safety glasses) used in the lab.
