Working Hours: 78 hours fortnightly

Overview
The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) will support the Director of Nursing in achieving the operational and strategic goals of the organisation, ensuring high‑quality person‑centred care and day‑to‑day hospital operations. The role involves clinical oversight, governance, staff development, quality improvement and strategic input aligned with national policy, legislation and regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities
The ADON will:
Provide professional and clinical leadership to the nursing team.
Be accountable for delivery, monitoring and evaluation of care and clinical practice within their area of responsibility.
Promote a culture of continuous quality improvement, patient safety, accountability and evidence‑based practice.
Support service development and organisational change initiatives.
Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team, senior management and external stakeholders to support integrated service delivery and ongoing development of nursing services.
Essential Criteria
Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
Minimum of 7 years post‑registration nursing experience, including significant experience within adult mental health services.
Relevant senior clinical and management experience within mental‑health services, with at least 5 years at Clinical Nurse Manager level.
Demonstrated experience in clinical leadership, governance, risk management and service improvement.
Comprehensive knowledge of Mental Health Commission standards, relevant legislation and regulatory requirements.
Experience in staff management, workforce planning, resource management and service delivery.
Evidence of continuing professional development and ongoing professional learning.
Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation and statutory obligations relevant to healthcare services.
