eir business talent are currently seeking applicants for a Network Security Engineer. This is a day rate contract position located with our client in Dublin 1. This is a hybrid role, requiring 3 days onsite per week.
Join a leading public‑sector organisation with a complex, secure hybrid environment. You'll be part of a small, highly capable team that owns networking as its core function and also runs security operations and vulnerability management. This is a hands‑on contract role focused on BAU stability, availability and security of critical network services.
Responsibilities:
1. Provide administration support across wired and wireless networks: switches, firewalls, network access controls and associated security components.
2. Troubleshoot L3 network issues, with a heavy emphasis on Fortinet FortiGate (firewall & proxy) in a multi‑vendor estate.
3. Monitor and triage security system alerts and suspicious activity; review daily logs and reports, investigate anomalies, and assist with remediation.
4. Manage and process network/security support tickets (Incident, Change & Problem).
5. Support a managed cloud tenancy and on‑prem communications infrastructure; assist with configuration management and documentation.
6. Contribute to vulnerability management activities and continuous hardening of the environment.
7. Collaborate closely with senior network engineers and security analysts; communicate clearly with stakeholders at all levels.
Tech Stack:
8. Networking: Cisco‑centric core (LAN/WAN/DMZ/VPN/DNS), Cisco switching & routing
9. Security:Fortinet FortiGate (priority), Check Point (perimeter—nice to have), web & email content filtering, IPS
10. Monitoring & SIEM: Vulnerability management tools; Microsoft Sentinel; Defender suite (advantage)
Responsibilities:
11. 5+ years' experience in a network security administration role within a medium‑size environment.
12. Certification: Minimum CCNA (or equivalent). Certifications in recognised Network/Security disciplines are required; CCNP, Fortinet, or Check Point CCSA are distinct advantages.
13. Solid knowledge of LAN, WAN, DMZ, VPN, DNS and common protocols.
14. Demonstrable experience with network configuration management and network security solutions.
15. Experience with web/email content filtering, IPS, network security monitoring and vulnerability management tools.
16. Full professional proficiency in English.
17. Excellent communication skills, strong ownership and initiative — you're comfortable working independently without hand‑holding.
Nice to have
18. Exposure to Microsoft Sentinel and the Microsoft Defender suite.
19. Prior experience supporting CISCO UC and transitions to Teams.
20. Experience working in small, high‑trust teams where clarity and pace matter.
