Principal Connections – executive search has been exclusively retained by a leading healthcare group to appoint for the position of Group Head of Capital Projects.
THE POSITION
The Group Head of Capital Projects will assume full accountability for establishing and leading a newly formed Programme Management Office across the integrated Capital, Information and Communications Technology, and Operational Readiness workstreams.
The role will ensure the accuracy, consistency and integrity of governance reporting structures, implementing robust project controls frameworks to monitor performance, manage risk, and support informed executive decision-making at Board and Group Chief Executive Officer level.
Leading a multidisciplinary Programme Management Office team, the appointee will oversee standardised methodologies, systems and digital tooling to manage large-scale, technically complex healthcare construction and infrastructure programmes.
They will work closely with Chief Executive Officers of individual clinics, Tier 1 Contractors, finance, procurement and estates leadership to ensure programme delivery to agreed timelines, budgets and quality standards, while supporting sustainable, low-carbon development objectives.
REQUIREMENTS
Candidates will possess an Engineering qualification at Level 8 or Level 9 and demonstrate at least eight years' relevant experience in project management or project controls within large-scale infrastructure environments, together with a minimum of five years' experience leading a Programme Management Office.
A proven track record of successfully delivering complex capital construction programmes through the full lifecycle, ideally within healthcare or a similarly regulated estate, is essential.
The successful candidate will demonstrate deep knowledge of project controls systems, construction management methodologies, Building Regulations, Planning Regulations, Health and Safety Regulations and Fire Safety Regulations.
They will bring strong leadership capability across procurement, contract management, risk management, financial governance and change management, alongside the ability to engage confidently with senior clinical and corporate stakeholders.
Experience operating within high-claims environments and brownfield sites with complex operational interfaces will be advantageous.
