Overview
Principal Engineer – Alignment/Open Roads (Civil 3D) leading alignment design on major transport infrastructure projects in Ireland and the UK. Senior technical role to lead, innovate, and deliver complex projects using cutting-edge design and modelling tools. Part of a 155-strong Transport and Civils Sector within Tetra Tech RPS, with projects up to €500 million.
Responsibilities
* Lead and mentor a growing team of alignment designers; oversee technical delivery of alignment modelling and geometry design packages.
* Collaborate with the Alignment Lead, project managers, and multidisciplinary teams; ensure outputs meet quality, safety, and innovation standards.
* Manage resources, review technical deliverables, present design solutions to clients; contribute to project management, team utilisation, budget control, tendering, and pipeline development.
* Deliver full lifecycle project delivery—from concept to construction and handover; contribute to strategic planning and design coordination.
* Support business development and tendering activities; maintain client relationships and opportunities.
* Uphold internal QA and BIM standards; mentor junior engineers; report to Alignment Team Lead and Business Unit Director.
Qualifications
* Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
* Chartered Engineer status (CEng MICE or equivalent)
* Extensive experience in alignment and geometry design for transport infrastructure
* Demonstrable leadership experience in a design consultancy environment
Beneficial Qualifications, Training, & Experience
* Postgraduate qualifications in transport or infrastructure engineering
* Project Management certification (e.g., PRINCE2, APM)
* Experience with BIM Level 2 standards and digital delivery platforms
* Familiarity with international design standards and practices
