We operate in a fast-paced environment with tight margins and a high volume of transactions each month. Our business demands a sharp focus on cash collection, creditor management, and maintaining strong financial discipline. We’re now looking for a hands-on, commercially aware Accountant to take full ownership of our finance function.

* Location: Hybrid working model – Work from Planet Blue’s offices located in Guinness Enterprise Centre, Dublin 8 when required, otherwise work remotely/from home.

Role Overview
The Accountant will lead the day-to-day finance operations and ensure the company’s financial health through robust cashflow and working capital management. You will be responsible for preparing accurate monthly management accounts, maintaining tight control over both receivables and payables, and ensuring timely reporting to support strategic decision-making.
Key Responsibilities –
1. Cashflow & Working Capital Management
o Monitor daily cash position and forecast short- and medium-term cashflow
o Manage payment runs strategically based on cash availability and priorities
o Drive timely and effective debtor collection and maintain customer payment discipline
o Liaise with suppliers to manage creditor terms and maintain strong
o Maintain and oversee the general ledger and accounting systems
o Ensure accurate and timely recording of all financial transactions
o Manage bank reconciliations, journals, accruals, and prepayments
Monthly Management Accounts
o Prepare and present monthly management accounts with variance analysis
o Support departmental heads with budget tracking and cost control
o Provide financial insight and analysis to support strategic decisions
3. Compliance & Reporting
o Ensure VAT and other statutory filings are submitted accurately and on time
o Liaise with external accountants, auditors, and advisors as required
o Ensure adherence to financial policies, controls, and procedures
4. Team & Process Leadership
o Where applicable, manage a small finance team or outsourced partners
o Drive process improvements to increase efficiency and financial transparency
Key Requirements –
· Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) or equivalent experience
· Minimum 5 years’ experience, with at least 2–3 years running the finance function of an SME
· Strong understanding of working capital, cashflow, and cost control in a tight-margin environment
· Proven experience in high-transaction-volume settings (e.g., retail, e-commerce, wholesale, logistics, or services)
· Proficient in accounting software (e.g., Xero, QuickBooks, Sage) and Excel/Google Sheets
· Hands-on, pragmatic, and commercially aware
· Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
· Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
· Experience improving or implementing finance systems and processes
· Exposure to funding/investor reporting in an SME context
· Familiarity with credit control tools and supplier management strategies
