Head Medical is seeking a dedicated and experienced Consultant in Anaesthesiology to join a model 2 univrtisty hospital based in the province of Connacht with a dynamic and growing medical team. This is an excellent opportunity to work in a hospital, providing high-quality patient care while contributing to the development of innovative medical practices in a supportive and progressive environment.This role is not a substantive post but will be a relatively short contract of 6 months with a potential of going permanent.
The post will be split between 2 University Hospitals, 40 minutes drive between each other.

1. Basic Salary scale between €231,215- €277,736 in accordance with the HSE 2023 Consultant contract
2. Additional remuneration for on-call duties and overtime as applicable depending on rota (up to €19,000)

Key Responsibilities
9. Clinical Responsibilities
10. Provide anaesthetic services for:
Day-case surgery (orthopaedic, general surgery, endoscopy, ophthalmology)
Chronic pain procedures
Sedation for diagnostic procedures (e.g. endoscopy, radiology)
11. Conduct pre-operative assessment clinics and oversee perioperative care
12. Participate in regional acute care and on-call rotas, particularly covering Galway University Hospital as needed
13. Provide advice and support to clinical colleagues in relation to anaesthetic and perioperative care
Teaching & Research
14. Supervise and train NCHDs, interns, and medical students rotating through RUH
15. Engage in continuing professional development (CPD
Administrative & Quality Roles
16. Maintain detailed clinical records in line with hospital and HSE policy
17. Participate in service planning and audit, risk management, and quality improvement initiatives
18. Contribute to policy development in anaesthesia, theatre efficiency, and patient safety
Requirements to Apply
19. Full registration (or eligibility for registration) with the Irish Medical Council (IMC) – Specialist Division in Anaesthesiology must be active and in place to secure an interview
20. Fellowship of the College of Anaesthesiologists of Ireland (FCAI) or equivalent (e.g. FRCA)
21. Significant experience in perioperative anaesthetic care and day-case anaesthesia
