About Our Client
I am working with a trusted name in civil engineering, delivering high-quality infrastructure and renewable energy projects across Ireland. Their commitment to excellence, sustainability, and innovation makes them a leader in supporting the clean energy transition, including large-scale solar installations.
Position Overview:
They are currently hiring an experienced Construction Manager to lead the delivery of a major solar energy project in Cork. The successful candidate will manage all aspects of site construction, with a particular focus on ducting for electrical and communications infrastructure, ensuring the project is delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead the day-to-day management of site operations for the solar project, including civil works, ducting, and structural installations.
* Oversee all ducting activities, including trenching, duct laying, cable installation interfaces, and backfilling in line with design specifications.
* Coordinate subcontractors, site crews, and plant to ensure smooth sequencing of ducting, drainage, foundations, and access roads.
* Ensure compliance with HSE standards, particularly around live services and underground utilities.
* Manage construction schedules, resources, and material deliveries to support ducting and cable infrastructure timelines.
* Conduct site inspections to ensure correct installation of duct banks, joint bays, and draw pits.
* Liaise with designers, electrical engineers, and the client to resolve ducting-related queries and ensure interface requirements are met.
* Maintain detailed site records including redline drawings, daily progress reports, and QA/QC documentation.
* Drive project progress through leadership, attention to detail, and problem-solving.
Key Requirements:
* Minimum 5 years’ experience in civil or construction management, preferably with solar, wind, or utility-scale energy projects.
* Demonstrable experience with ducting installations, including HV/LV cable ducts, comms ducting, and associated infrastructure.
* Solid understanding of trenching, cable route layouts, and utility protection requirements.
* Track record of managing multidisciplinary teams and coordinating with electrical contractors.
* Excellent communication, organisational, and decision-making skills.
* Strong commitment to health, safety, and environmental standards.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office, site management tools, and reading technical drawings.
* Full clean driving licence.
* Degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or similar.
* Experience with GPS/setting-out for ducting routes.
* SMSTS, IOSH, or other relevant safety certifications.
* Familiarity with ESB/utility ducting standards and grid connection processes.
