The Engineer 2 or Scientist 2 works as part of a team to develop and support products within the Technology groups. Work is usually performed with the oversight of a more senior Engineer and within defined parameters. The Engineer 2 or Scientist 2 also develops skills to make work decisions, apply concepts to issues of moderate complexity, and resolve issues through immediate action or short-term planning.
Embedded Systems Engineers combine hardware, firmware and software design activities for target applications on devices that are not classified as traditional computers. Embedded software development involves specialized programming for non-PC processors or FPGA targets that are part of a standalone electrical system which ordinarily has a small form factor. Unlike standard PC applications, which can be installed on a variety of computer systems, embedded software has fixed, targeted hardware requirements and capabilities.
Embedded software is typically used to control prescribed functions of hardware devices and doesn't necessarily rely on human machine interfaces during standard operating conditions, although such interfaces may be provided for activities including configuration, calibration, diagnosis, and reporting. Embedded system functionality may be activated by external controls, sensor signals, local or external control input.
Delivers engineering and scientific efforts related to the design of new products and services and new designs for customer projects. Delivery of projects through the design, verification, production and, if required, commercialization stages. Usually consists of a cross-disciplinary organization executing projects to support technology portfolio strategy. Coordinates closely with Discipline, Research, and Testing teams as needed.
