Purpose
SMBC are continuing their cloud adoption journey and so we are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Google Cloud Engineer to join our growing team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, implementing and managing cloud-based solutions on the Google Cloud Platform as part of a multicloud environment. You will work closely with cross-functional teams and other stakeholders to deliver high-quality, resilient, scalable and secure solutions that meet business requirements.
Accountabilities and Responsibilities
* Working closely with our IT colleagues (including Information Security, Networks, Infrastructure and Support) design, implement and maintain Google Cloud core infrastructure and resources to support our business
* Automate infrastructure provisioning and management using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and CI/CD DevSecOps tools
* Monitor and troubleshoot cloud environments ensuring high availability and performance
* Working with Information Security, assist in the implementation and management of security best practices, including access control, data encryption and threat detection
* Collaborate with development teams to integrate cloud solutions with existing applications and systems
* Stay up-to-date with the latest Google Cloud technologies and industry best practices
* Participate in the evaluation and selection of new cloud-based technologies and services
* Contribute to the improvement of cloud operations and processes
Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Qualifications
* Proven experience (typically 5+ years) working as a Cloud Engineer in Google Cloud Platform
* Strong understanding of cloud computing concepts and their Google Cloud implementation including networking, storage and security as well as other concepts such as SaaS, PaaS and IaaS
* Experience and understanding of enterprise patterns and best practices around building out GCP for a regulated organisation (e.g. Landing Zones, Enterprise foundations blueprint, network and connectivity options, etc.)
* Proven experience with DevSecOps practices (e.g. Git, CI/CD) and tools such as Google Cloud DevOps, Cloud Build, GitHub Enterprise and GitLab
* Strong proficiency with IaC tools which must include Terraform
* Solid understanding of Google Cloud Identity and Access Management (IAM) and Role-Based Access Control (RBAC)
* Experience with scripting languages, e.g. PowerShell, Bash and Python
* Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills
* Strong communications and collaboration skills with the ability to produce clear documentation in corporate Wiki tools, for example
* Experience with containerization technologies including Docker and Kubernetes is a plus
* Relevant Google Cloud certifications are a plus
* Experience of other Cloud Service Providers and their offerings, in particular Microsoft Azure and AWS, is also a strong plus
