Role Profile: We currently have an opening for a Deputy Head of Manager Research to join our Manager Research and Selection team at Mediolanum. The successful candidate will have responsibility for developing and maintaining a buy list of funds used to support the creation of a broad range of fund-of-fund portfolios. The role also involves working closely with fund-of-fund portfolio managers to identify the best fund ideas according to our Fund Selection process, with the objective of delivering strong performance for clients and helping products rank well within their peer groups.
The Investment Team is growing, providing a thriving environment for career progression. We are looking for someone with fund research experience across one or several asset classes, focusing on equity and/or fixed income research.
Duties:
* Responsible for the identification and selection of equity and/or fixed income managers for addition to the buy list.
* Responsible for supervising selected strategies on the buy list and recommending removal according to our monitoring process.
* Engage and work alongside portfolio managers in the ongoing monitoring of existing and prospective fund investments.
* Contribute to the ongoing improvement of the fund selection and monitoring process, especially with quantitative techniques to enhance efficiency and focus.
* Share research on active manager trends and key strategic papers of leading asset managers with the wider investment team.
* Mentor other team members, with scope for management responsibilities.
* Maintain and develop our manager research database and records.
* Collaborate with the team across other asset classes as needed.
* Support compliance, regulatory, and legal functions as required.
* Participate in ad hoc projects as assigned.
Skills & Competencies: A strong interest in investment markets, proactive approach, proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint; familiarity with Bloomberg, FactSet, Morningstar Direct, and Style Analytics is advantageous.
Qualifications & Experience:
* Minimum 10 years relevant experience in the investment industry.
* Relevant third-level qualification.
* CFA qualification or equivalent.
* Proven track record of selecting outperforming managers focused on equity or fixed income.
* Experience in coaching or mentoring a team is beneficial.
* Strong knowledge of main asset classes, especially equities and related styles/approaches.
* Ability to understand and communicate key investment risks to senior stakeholders and Investment Committee.
