Job Title: Senior Electronics/PCB Design Engineer
Location: Dublin City, Ireland / Remote Options
Department: Hardware Engineering / Electrical Engineering
Job Type: Contract (Outside IR35)
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Electronics/PCB Design Engineer with deep expertise in high current and high-power PCB layout and design.
This role focuses on designing complex power electronics systems handling currents from 10A to over 200A, incorporating best practices for thermal management, signal integrity, and manufacturability.
The ideal candidate is highly skilled in hands-on PCB design, can work autonomously, and collaborates effectively with cross-functional teams including hardware, mechanical, and manufacturing engineers.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the full lifecycle of PCB layout for high-power electronic systems.
* Design boards optimized for high current handling, including trace width, copper thickness, thermal dissipation, and creepage/clearance considerations.
* Conduct power integrity, impedance, and thermal simulations.
* Define board architecture and work closely with hardware engineers on component placement strategies.
* Generate complete manufacturing documentation: Gerber files, BOMs, assembly drawings, and pick-and-place data.
* Support hardware validation, bring-up, and testing.
* Provide technical mentorship to junior designers or contractors.
* Liaise with vendors for DFM (Design for Manufacturability) and DFT (Design for Testability) reviews.
Required Qualifications
* Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or related field.
* 7+ years of professional PCB design experience, with at least 3 years in high current/high power applications.
* Strong command of PCB design tools such as Mentor Graphics, Cadence Allegro, or equivalent.
* Deep knowledge of power planes, thermal vias, stack-up design, and heat dissipation techniques.
* Experience designing systems such as DC-DC converters, motor controllers, battery management, or power distribution units.
* Familiarity with IPC standards, especially for high current applications.
* Proficiency in thermal, power integrity, and signal integrity simulations.
* Excellent communication, documentation, and collaboration skills.
Desirable Skills
* Experience with EMI/EMC mitigation in high current PCB designs.
* Knowledge of mixed-signal and embedded system integration.
* Industry experience in automotive, industrial, or aerospace environments.
* Familiarity with heavy copper PCB fabrication and multi-layer designs.
What We Offer
* Contract role – Outside IR35
* Flexible location – remote options available
* Competitive day rate
* Opportunity to work on cutting-edge high-power hardware systems
* Collaborative and technically driven engineering team
