Job Description:
Job Title: Healthcare Assistant
Location: Saint Joseph's Nursing Home, Ballymacprior, Killorglin, Co. Kerry
Report to: Director of Nursing
Job Purpose: To improve residents' quality of life through individualized, holistic care, promoting independence, and effective communication with residents and the multidisciplinary team.
Main responsibilities:
* Deliver quality care to each resident
* Assist residents with personal and intimate care based on assessed needs
* Support residents with eating and drinking as appropriate
* Encourage a normal nutritional diet
* Assist with mobilization of residents
* Support diversional therapies such as activities and movement to music
* Assist nursing staff with resident care and end-of-life care
* Be familiar with infection control protocols
* Report changes in residents' conditions to senior staff
* Ensure residents' sleep patterns are not disturbed at night by noise or bright lights
* Maintain accurate documentation of care provided
Health & Safety:
* Provide close supervision day and night due to residents' high dependency
* Follow Nazareth Care Ireland's health and safety policies
* Report faulty equipment to your supervisor
* Familiarize yourself with transfer and handling procedures
* Use hoists only with a second staff member present
* Understand evacuation and fire policies
Skills, Knowledge & Qualifications:
* FETAC Level 5 or relevant training
* Experience caring for the elderly, preferably in a residential setting
* Adopt a person-centered approach to care planning
* Teamwork and effective communication skills
* Commitment to ongoing professional development
* Interest in caring for older people
* Positive attitude and adaptability to changing needs
* Participation in care planning with nursing staff
* Proficiency in manual handling and patient moving skills
