Theatre Robotics CNM2 - UPMC Sports Surgery Clinic Dublin

Location: UPMC Sports Surgery Clinic, Santry, Dublin 9.

Job type: Full-time Contract of Employment

Overview of role:

The Operating Theatre Robotics Manager is responsible for the effective management,

coordination, and continuous improvement of robotic-assisted surgical services within the

operating theatre.

This includes overseeing day-to-day operations of robotic surgery, maintaining compliance

with safety and quality standards, managing robotic equipment and supplies, staff training,

and acting as the primary liaison between surgical teams and hospital administration

regarding robotic procedures.

The role will provide clinical leadership, optimise theatre efficiency, manage advanced robotic

technologies, and ensure safe, high-quality patient care. With the increasing demand for

minimally invasive, robot-assisted procedures and the strategic expansion of orthopaedic and

spinal services in UPMC SSC, this leadership position is vital for expert knowledge, clinical

governance, cost-efficiency, and service innovation.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

* Oversee the planning, scheduling, and execution of all robotic-assisted surgical

procedures.

* Ensure all robotic systems MAKO (Stryker) Velys (De Puy Synthes J&J) Excelsius (Global

Medical) and other systems that may be introduced in the future are properly maintained,

calibrated, and safe for use.

* Completion of Enterprise Architecture (EA)and Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA)

as required .

* Manage a team of robotic surgical assistants, scrub nurses, and technicians and HCAs
* Provide hands-on support during robotic procedures as needed.
* Develop and implement standardized operating procedures (SOPs) for robotic surgeries.
* Collaborate with surgeons, anaesthesiologists, and nursing staff to ensure high-quality

patient outcomes.

* Lead training and certification programmes for theatre staff in robotic surgery protocols.
* Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as case volumes, downtime, instrument

usage, and staff performance.

* Co-ordinate maintenance and repairs with biomedical engineer or vendors.
* Ensure compliance with regulatory standards, infection control, and hospital policies.
* Participate in budget planning, procurement of robotic instruments, and consumables.
* Stay current with advancements in robotic surgery and recommend upgrades or new

technologies.

* Maintain documentation for audits, quality assurance, and training purposes.

Operational Management:

* Oversee day-to-day scheduling and execution of all robotic-assisted surgical procedures.
* Ensure availability, functionality, and compliance of robotic surgical systems (e.g. da

Vinci).

* Collaborate with the Theatre Manager 3, Bed Manager and ADON for patient flow to

optimise theatre utilisation and efficiency for robotic lists.

Team Leadership:

* Manage, lead, and support theatre staff involved in robotic procedures.
* Co-ordinate training and ongoing education for staff in robotic systems and safety

protocols.

* Act as lead clinical support for theatre teams during robotic procedures as required.

Equipment & Compliance:

* Ensure preventative maintenance, servicing, and calibration of robotic systems in

collaboration with the Facilities Department and Biomedical Engineer.

* Oversee ordering and inventory of robotic consumables and instruments in line with

budgetary controls.

* Maintain all documentation related to equipment safety checks, usage logs, and incident

reporting.

Qualifications & Experience:

Essential:

* Registered Nurse with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI)
* Minimum 5 years' experience in a theatre setting, with 2+ years in robotic surgery

support.

* Proven leadership experience in a clinical setting.
* Certified training on robotic surgical platforms.

Desirable:

* Postgraduate qualification in Healthcare Management.
* Postgraduate qualification in Perioperative Nursing
* Experience working in a JCI-accredited or HIQA-regulated environment.
* Familiarity with private hospital systems and theatre management software.

Technical:

* Demonstrate good IT skills.

Key Skills & Competencies:

* Strong clinical knowledge of robotic surgical workflows.
* Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
* Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams effectively.
* High level of attention to detail and patient safety awareness.
* Effective communicator with both clinical and non-clinical stakeholders.
