As the business continues to scale, they are seeking a strong
Commercial Manager
to lead and strengthen the commercial function and support continued success across multiple active projects.
The Role
As
Commercial Manager
, you will oversee all commercial activities across the business, managing a small but capable team of 3–4 Quantity Surveyors. You will report directly to the Managing Director and play a pivotal role in maintaining margin control, contract compliance, risk mitigation, and commercial reporting across the company's portfolio of work.
This is a hands-on, visible leadership role with real impact – ideal for someone with strong commercial instincts and team management experience, who enjoys being close to the action in a growing company.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the Commercial Department and mentor a team of QS staff (3–4 individuals).
* Oversee cost planning, tendering, contract negotiation, valuations, variations, and final accounts.
* Monitor project commercial performance from tender stage to project close-out.
* Work closely with Project Managers and Site Teams to ensure alignment between commercial and delivery teams.
* Assist in resource planning, subcontractor procurement, and commercial risk assessment.
* Maintain and improve internal reporting systems to give senior leadership real-time visibility on margin, cost risks, and cash flow.
* Represent them in client and subcontractor commercial discussions.
* Help shape future growth of the department – including hiring, training, and process development.
Requirements
* Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Construction Economics, or a related discipline.
* 10+ years' experience in a commercial role with a main contractor or developer.
* Experience managing teams and commercial functions on multiple simultaneous projects.
* Excellent commercial awareness, contract law knowledge, and negotiation skills.
* Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication abilities.
* Proficient in Microsoft Excel and cost management systems.
* Ambitious and grounded with a desire to help shape and grow the commercial function.
