Offer description

Overview
At Medtronic you can begin a life‑long career of exploration and innovation, while helping champion healthcare access and equity for all. You’ll lead with purpose, breaking down barriers to innovation in a more connected, compassionate world.
A Day in the Life
The Coronary and Renal Denervation (CRDN) Operating Unit is dedicated to transforming care for patients with coronary artery disease and hypertension. We combine innovative devices, digital technologies, and artificial intelligence to support clinicians and improve patient outcomes worldwide. The work you do will impact patients globally and help support Medtronic’s mission of alleviating pain, restoring health, and extending life.
The User Experience (UX) Director will lead the user experience vision for CRDN’s growing digital product portfolio while building and scaling a high‑performing UX organization inclusive of UX designers and UX researchers. This role is accountable for establishing foundational UX practices across the organization, defining how UX integrates into CRDN’s product development lifecycle, and ensuring consistent, high‑quality delivery across both insourced and coordinated outsourced work.
You will engage deeply with clinicians, product leads, marketing, engineering, and system architects to design experiences that are intuitive, clinically meaningful, and aligned with CRDN’s regulatory and quality frameworks. You will also define UX strategy, operating model, staffing plan, and budget while supporting the incorporation of emerging digital and AI‑enabled capabilities in a safe, compliant, and purposeful way.
The ideal candidate brings senior leadership experience running a significant UX organization, ideally within MedTech, and a proven track record delivering complex digital products for technical users in regulated environments.
Responsibilities

UX Strategy & Leadership – Own and evolve the UX vision and strategy for CRDN’s digital product portfolio, ensuring alignment with business priorities, clinical outcomes, and regulatory expectations.
Build, lead, and mentor a scalable UX organization including UX designers and UX researchers.
Define team structure, roles, hiring plans, and onboarding approaches to support current and future product needs.
Establish and manage the UX operating budget, including internal staffing and external vendor/agency spend.
Manage and coordinate outsourced UX partners, ensuring quality, consistency, and integration with internal teams.
Set clear expectations, goals, and success metrics for UX delivery and maturity.
Engage in clinical observations and interviews to understand real‑world workflows, tasks, and constraints.
Ensure workflow‑oriented UX design across CRDN digital products, translating clinical insights, stakeholder inputs, and system constraints into interaction models and end‑to‑end product experiences.
Oversee and contribute to the creation of workflow diagrams, user journeys, wireframes, prototypes, and design specifications that clearly communicate intended behaviors and support high‑quality implementation.
Ensure usability research and validation activities are planned, executed, and documented appropriately across product lifecycles.
Partner closely with digital product leads, engineering, marketing, clinical teams, and system architecture to shape product direction, align priorities, and deliver successful products.
Serve as a senior UX voice in product planning, roadmap discussions, and design trade‑off decisions.
Facilitate collaborative design sessions, workflow reviews, and design critiques with cross‑functional partners.
Establish UX processes, documentation standards, and experience guidelines that support consistency across CRDN’s digital ecosystem.
Define how UX integrates into CRDN’s product development processes, including agile and dual‑track delivery models.
Oversee the development and evolution of design systems and shared UX assets.
Incorporate modern AI‑assisted design and prototyping techniques to accelerate concept exploration and iteration—while ensuring outputs remain clinically safe, clear, and aligned with regulatory expectations.
Ensure usability testing is designed, executed, and reported at appropriate stages of development, from early concepts through summative validation, in alignment with Medtronic’s quality and regulatory policies.
Mentor teams on UX methods, workflow mapping, and effective design practices to elevate UX maturity across CRDN.
