Overview
Meta is seeking a data center Mechanical Subject Matter Expert to join our Data Center Facility Operations team. Our data centers serve as the foundation upon which our systems operate to meet the demands of our customers. The Mechanical Subject Matter Expert will be a part of the facility operations team and will be responsible for being the mechanical system technical operations expert. The candidate will need a broad understanding of mechanical systems and equipment function and will be responsible for procedure-based mechanical maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, training, and project oversight. The expert should be experienced in technologies such as chiller systems, evaporative cooling, DX cooling, water distribution and treatment, emergency diesel generators, fire suppression systems, and have a working knowledge of building automation systems and electrical distribution.
Responsibilities
Serve as the primary onsite technical resource for mechanical infrastructure systems and equipment, emphasizing practical/field application.
Author or approve work procedures for mechanical troubleshooting, repair, retrofit, and maintenance activities, focusing on risk assessment and mitigation.
Conduct or oversee hands-on troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of mechanical infrastructure systems and equipment.
Provide QA/QC oversight of campus construction, retrofit projects, and maintenance activities.
Lead or participate in root cause analysis activities related to mechanical infrastructure systems and equipment.
Oversee water quality management programs.
Train Critical Facility Engineers and other teams on mechanical, fire, life safety, and water systems and procedures.
Provide feedback on global mechanical maintenance strategies and system design improvements.
Manage vendor relationships for mechanical system maintenance and retrofits.
Support the operation of Facebook data centers with other duties as required.
Travel may be significant initially for training and onboarding, with occasional travel thereafter.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
7+ years of relevant mechanical industry experience or trade-level experience.
Bachelor’s degree in a related field plus 3+ years of experience may substitute for some experience.
Experience interpreting blueprints/CAD drawings.
Knowledge of mechanical plans, specifications, and shop drawings.
Understanding of psychrometric charts.
Experience in critical facility operations and procedure-based work.
Preferred Qualifications
7+ years’ experience in a data center or critical environment.
Trade certification or state license in Mechanical (HVAC).
Equipment field service engineering experience.
