About the post: The RCSI School of Dentistry is seeking Enquiry-Based Learning (EBL) Facilitators to support the delivery of its undergraduate dental programme. The post holder will facilitate small-group learning sessions designed to consolidate student knowledge through structured case-based enquiry. This role emphasises guided learning, critical thinking, and professional development rather than didactic teaching. Facilitators will contribute to student assessment and participate in calibration and standardisation activities to ensure consistency across the programme. The role involves close collaboration with the EBL Lead and wider academic team to support high-quality delivery of enquiry-based learning. The role benefits from individuals who can draw on clinical experience to support the development of students' professional reasoning and behaviours. Teaching Commitment Small-group teaching format (maximum 8 students per facilitator) Sessions delivered in 1.5-hour blocks Typically 3-4 sessions delivered over a two-week EBL cycle Participation in associated assessment and academic activities required Job Responsibilities Teaching & Facilitation Facilitate Enquiry-Based Learning (EBL) sessions for undergraduate dental students Deliver small-group teaching (maximum ratio 8:1 students to facilitator) Support students in developing clinical reasoning, integration of knowledge, and independent learning skills Guide discussion without direct instruction, promoting enquiry-led learning Session Delivery Deliver EBL sessions typically scheduled 3-4 times over a two-week period Each session is approximately 1.5 hours in duration Support learning consolidation aligned with the programme curriculum Preparation Prepare for teaching sessions using pre-developed case materials Review and engage with provided content to ensure effective facilitation Assessment Undertake assessment of students in relation to EBL activities Grade oral assessments in line with programme criteria Assess student participation, including demonstration of knowledge, engagement, and professionalism Contribute to fair and consistent assessment practices Quality Assurance & Academic Contribution Attend and engage in facilitator training and calibration sessions Participate in assessment standardisation meetings Work collaboratively with the EBL Lead and academic team to ensure consistency of delivery across groups Person Specification Essential Criteria Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) or equivalent dental qualification Strong communication and interpersonal skills Ability to facilitate small-group, student-centred learning Commitment to professionalism and supporting student development Ability to assess student performance in a structured and consistent manner Desirable Criteria Experience in clinical dental practice Experience in dental or healthcare education Familiarity with enquiry-based or problem-based learning approaches Registration with the Dental Council of Ireland (or eligibility for registration) We are all too aware that imposter syndrome and the confidence gap can sometimes stop fantastic candidates putting themselves forward, so please do submit an application - we'd love to hear from you.
