Power Plant Operator Job Description
Job Summary:
The Power Plant Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the power station, meeting grid demands and contracts with customers. Emergency actions are taken when necessary.
Tynagh Power Station produces electricity for the National Grid.
* Operating and monitoring power plant systems via Distributed Control System HMI, Continuous Emissions Monitoring system, and other control room and station control systems.
* Maintaining compliance with site quality procedures, work instructions, and EHS policy and procedures.
* Responding to variances in normal station operating parameters and taking corrective actions.
* Monitoring plant and process for safe operation in accordance with operating procedures.
* Reporting items beyond shift personnel scope to Shift Supervisor.
This role requires excellent IT skills, fluency in English, ability to work independently, and willingness to work in a shift pattern including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Desirable qualifications include electrical or mechanical qualification to minimum trade level or equivalent, power plant operating experience, and relevant certifications.
Working within operations department, plant operator is a team player analyzing issues, making decisions, developing self and others, maintaining plant availability, and operating within environmental and regulatory limits while meeting national grid requirements.
Further duties include routine testing of plant and equipment, reporting unsafe conditions, participating in business improvement projects, and contributing to site EHS frameworks teams.
