Job Title: Civil and Utilities Projects Cost Control Specialist
Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled Quantity Surveyor to support the commercial performance of projects and drive profitable growth in the business. As a key member of our team, you will provide critical evidence to support payment claims against project targets and monitor progress commercially.
Main Responsibilities:
* To adhere to and maintain compliance with all Health and Safety procedures within your work, ensuring responsibility for yourself and/or team members who report into you.
* To assist with P&L responsibility for projects whilst working within delegated levels of authority issued by the contract manager.
* To support estimating and tender preparation, using costing information as a basis for monitoring performance against pre-determined costs.
* To aid in the preparation of cost plans, estimates, and cash flow projections, supporting procurement activities, advising on packaging and bills of quantity.
* To coordinate with commercial managers on the format and content of contractual correspondence.
* To prepare for final account meetings to resolve major accounts for measured work, loss and expense claims or contra charges.
* To carry out labour target and incentive payment calculations.
* To conduct feasibility studies, risk/value management exercises, and identify commercial problems to escalate to the contract manager.
* To calculate and agree monthly valuations with clients, generate invoices, and assist credit control with delayed payments.
* To ensure clear and accountable work-in-progress (WIP) reporting with controls and measures that support monitoring performance against tender and contract valuations.
* To check all costs and report inaccuracies to the senior quantity surveyor and/or contract manager.
Person Specification:
* Related Degree level qualification (Level 8)
* 5 Year + Commercial and financial experience within Civil and Utilities projects
* Knowledge/Experience of various contract types and the legal framework
* Technical ability to understand specifications, tender documents, technical drawings, and bills of quantity
* Excellent analytical, numeric, and IT skills with good attention to detail
* Interpersonal skills: excellent organisational, interpersonal, and communication skills required: strong written and verbal communication skills
* Natural decision-maker: able to exercise judgement and take responsibility for the consequences of actions and decisions
* Delegation and Time Management Communication and Negotiation
* Pretty much all relevant skills required for a cost control role in this industry
