The Organisation Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI) is responsible for the external quality assurance of further and higher education and training in Ireland, validating programmes and making awards.
It is responsible for the promotion, maintenance, development and review of the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ).
In addition, QQI informs the public about the quality of education and training programmes and qualifications and advises the Government on national policy regarding quality assurance and enhancement in education and training.
The Role Reporting to the Board of QQI, the role of Chief Executive is a key leadership and senior management position.
The new Chief Executive and will be responsible for leading QQI, as well as demonstrating corporate leadership, vision and driving strategic direction.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the day to day running and governance of the organisation to support the effective and efficient delivery of the organisation's mandate, goals and strategy.
The role will also ensure effective engagement with the wide range of stakeholders involved across the tertiary education sector.
The Person The successful candidate will have a demonstrable track record of managing and identifying improvement opportunities, with experience of implementing improvements and managing staff through change.
They will also have an understanding of public administration in Ireland and a strong record of administration or management at a high level.
The role will also require evidence of excellent judgement, creative problem-solving and decision-making skills, as well as a strong awareness of the current political environment relevant to the education and training sector.
Essential Criteria The successful candidate will demonstrate evidence of: Qualification(s) in a relevant discipline, including one to a minimum of level 8 on the NFQ framework Proven and extensive track record of attainment and achievement in senior leadership roles within complex regulatory, public sector, or tertiary education environments, with demonstrated responsibility for strategic planning, execution, operational oversight, financial management, and senior stakeholder engagement Demonstrated ability to drive change and innovation, responding to both internal and external challenges in evolving environments Influencing and managing multiple stakeholders in complex environments, successfully Strong understanding of corporate governance, corporate strategy and risk management Effectively using available resources (human, financial, infrastructure etc) to maximise performance and achieve strategic goals Demonstrated ability to build and lead high-performing teams, delegate effectively, foster balanced leadership, and develop partnerships essential for organisational success.
Desirable Criteria The successful candidate may demonstrate evidence of: Quality Assurance in an Education and Training context Chartered FCIPD membership Self development and expertise development in evolving environments Commitment and drive to overcome obstacles in delivering results.
