Title: Researcher ML / Data Analytics Department: Nimbus Research Centre Contract Type: 1 Year Fixed Term Whole Time Location: Bishopstown Campus, Cork Reporting to: Mr Brian Cahill Overview of the Nimbus Research Centre: Introduction to Nimbus The Nimbus Research Centres support for industry focuses on vertically integrated, secure, trusted digital solutions for Information Technology, Operational Technology and Internet of Things applications in areas such as Energy, Sustainability, Smart Manufacturing, Health, Smart Cities and Communities.
We have a strong focus on sustainable human, societal and economic benefit across our three pillars of Research, Enterprise Engagement and Learning.
Our team comprises hardware, networking, software, data analytics, machine learning, cybersecurity and systems integration experts with extensive experience in industry collaborations both in Ireland and internationally.
The primary location for this role is the Bishopstown campus of MTU.
The Nimbus Research Centre at MTU invites applications from suitably qualified person for the position of Researcher ML/Data Analytics at the Nimbus Research Centre.
Duties of the Post: The successful candidate will work within the Nimbus Gateway data analytics team.
Nimbus is currently involved in applied research and investigative industrial projects.
As such, we currently have a need for a motivated individual with an interest in machine learning and data analytics to join the team.
Qualification Requirements and Selection Criteria for role: Essential: Hold an Honours Primary Degree (Second Class or higher) and a Masters Degree in Computer Science, Data Science and Analytics or equivalent discipline.
Alternatively, 4 years relevant research experience will be acceptable in lieu of a Masters degree.
Have a knowledge and experience of working with the following areas and technologies: August 2025 Page 2 of 4 Ref: o Ability to use Tensorflow, Keras, Scikit-Learn, Pandas and NumPy.
o State of the art software development methods and techniques - for e.g.: SOA or micro-services; agile; UML; test driven development and design patterns.
o Demonstrable skills across a number of the following: Python 3, C++; Java/JEE; MySQL/NoSQL; MEAN Stack.
Desirable: Desirable, a PhD in an AI, Machine Learning or Data Science discipline.
