AirNav Ireland - Engineer (Cork) About AirNav Ireland AirNav Irelandis a commercial semi-state company, established under the provisions of the Air Navigation and Transport Act, 2022 (the Act). AirNav Irelands primary function is the provision of air traffic management (ATM) and related services in Irish-controlled airspace and at State airports. AirNav Ireland generates revenue from charges and fees raised from airline customers for the provision of these services. AirNav Ireland operates independently, without any financial support from the Irish Exchequer. Job Purpose The Engineering Team at Cork are responsible for the operation and maintenance of a number of key systems providing air traffic control services at Cork Airport. Engineers in Cork provide the first line of contact for fault and outage reporting by the Cork Air Traffic Control staff. They are responsible for conducting scheduled periodic maintenance on key systems including instrument landing and other navigation systems, radar systems, and air ground communication systems. The Cork engineer is also engaged in supporting the full system project lifecycle from system specification through to installation and acceptance testing. Main Duties and Responsibilities Analyse and resolve faults in a real time environment. Carry out corrective and preventative maintenance duties and restoration of equipment/systems to service in the event of failure and originating NOTAMS regarding outages. Communicate with key stakeholders on expected return to service timescales of equipment and systems. Ensure equipment and systems operate with minimum interruptions to service (this may require technical analysis and corrective procedures being carried out during periods of reduced traffic to minimize downtime). Monitor and maintain equipment and systems, in a safety critical environment, to ensure the delivery of safe and high-quality customer service to AirNav Ireland customers. Certify equipment and systems for use by Air Traffic Control. Key systems used in Cork include VHF communications, surveillance, mechanical and electrical, navigation and flight data processing systems. Provision of technical expertise during regulatory and internal compliance audits. Support/deliver project delivery through the full systems development lifecycle from system specification to testing and final transfer into operational service. Support out of hours engineering callout in accordance with the Cork unit callout requirements (systems are operational on a 24 hours / 365days basis providing an essential service to the airport). PERSON SPECIFICATON Education, Knowledge, Experience & Skills Essential: Degree in Telecommunications, Electrical or Electronic Engineering, Computer Systems Engineering, Network System Engineering, Electronic Systems Engineering or related technical discipline. Minimum of two years experience working in the field of engineering Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team Proven ability to prioritise workload Flexibility to operate in a 24/7, 365 environment Ability to undertake project systems engineering and project management tasks Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Excellent verbal and written English language skills due to the critical importance of clear communications with air traffic control in a safety critical environment. Desirable Engineering experience and knowledge of air traffic control systems, in particular those used to provide services at an international airport. Understanding of computer & network systems Understanding of mechanical and electrical systems Experience and knowledge of systems engineering in a regulated environment Experience and understanding of systems integration, system test and evaluation methods.
