We are partnering with a Medical Device client in Mayo to support them with hiring an experienced Lead R&D Engineer to drive the development of new product concepts and technologies. The role involves leading or supporting cross‑functional projects, developing prototypes and collaborating with teams across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
Translate clinical needs into device concepts and prototypes, ensuring compliance with human factors and regulatory requirements.
Research and integrate new technologies to expand the product portfolio.
Provide technical support to NPD, Marketing, Engineering, and Manufacturing teams.
Lead or contribute to cross‑functional development projects and manage project timelines.
Conduct product and project risk analyses and ensure timely project delivery.
Prepare financial justifications and communicate findings effectively.
Review vendor offerings and assess suitability.
Source, select, and evaluate materials and components.
Evaluate performance and stability of new technologies and support future product introductions.
Conduct trials for new technologies.
Collaborate with patent counsel on patentability assessments and applications.
Experience
8+ years of relevant industry experience, ideally in medical devices.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering or related field (required).
Master’s or PhD (preferred).
Project management experience (preferred).
Skills & Knowledge
Strong innovation and creative problem‑solving abilities.
Experience working with clinical professionals and translating feedback into product concepts.
Knowledge of human factors integration in early‑stage development.
Experience with product design and prototype development.
SolidWorks/3D modelling experience (preferred).
