Project Engineer – Process Water Treatment (Data Centre Sector)
Mallow, County Cork, Ireland Company: Bitrecruit Client / Employer: Occupop
About the Role
Due to continued growth and the award of multiple data centre utility water and process water treatment projects, EPS Group is expanding its MEICA engineering team. We are seeking a Project Engineer with strong technical expertise in water treatment processes to support the delivery of critical process-water systems in hyperscale and enterprise data centres across Ireland and Europe.
In this role, you will support the design, installation, integration and commissioning of advanced water treatment systems used in mission‑critical cooling, humidification and process applications. You will work closely with multidisciplinary EPS teams, supply‑chain partners and major data centre operators to ensure the safe, timely and efficient delivery of high‑reliability process‑water infrastructure.
This is a varied role combining design coordination, project delivery, site engineering and commissioning support. Depending on project phase, it may be office‑based, site‑based or hybrid.
Key Responsibilities
Manage and support all mechanical, electrical and ICA aspects of process‑water treatment installations within data centres.
Interpret and work from P&IDs, technical drawings, design specifications and functional control narratives.
Support the design team in developing innovative solutions using modern water‑treatment technologies (RO, UF, ion exchange, dosing, filtration).
Coordinate procurement activities, including selection and ordering of pumps, skids, valves, instruments and control systems.
Develop project schedules and ensure all interfaces—from design through installation to commissioning—are fully accounted for and delivered.
Process Water Treatment Systems
Oversee installation, integration and performance validation of systems such as:
Reverse Osmosis (RO)
Ultrafiltration (UF)
Softening and demineralisation
Chemical dosing and disinfection
Polishing and high‑purity systems
Monitor process stability and water quality parameters to ensure system compliance with data centre operational requirements.
Work alongside M&E contractors, BMS/SCADA teams and client representatives within live or construction‑stage data centre environments.
Ensure water treatment systems integrate seamlessly with cooling towers, adiabatic coolers, chilled‑water loops and makeup water systems.
Support commissioning teams in FAT/SAT, functional testing, start‑up, optimisation and handover.
Safety, Documentation & Reporting
Coordinate project safety requirements and liaise with the EPS HSQE team to ensure best‑in‑class safety practices.
Prepare engineering documentation including method statements, risk assessments, O&M manuals, commissioning schedules and progress reports.
Manage site labour, subcontractors and daily installation activities while ensuring all work adheres to EPS and client safety standards.
Stakeholder Management
Liaise and coordinate with clients, consultants, vendors and internal project teams to ensure smooth project delivery.
Attend progress meetings, technical reviews and commissioning walkdowns.
Support training and handover processes for client operations teams.
Key Competencies and Skills
Proven experience in a Mechanical/Electrical/Process Engineering environment.
Strong knowledge of water treatment technologies and associated mechanical/ICA equipment.
Experience with PLC, SCADA or BMS‑controlled systems in industrial environments.
Excellent analytical, diagnostic and problem‑solving abilities.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively.
Ability to manage multiple tasks within time‑sensitive project schedules.
Willingness to learn, innovate and deliver within the fast‑paced data centre sector.
Qualifications
Third‑level qualification in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Environmental or Automation Engineering.
Equivalent relevant experience will be considered.
Full EU/Irish driving licence.
Additional industry certifications (IOSH/NEBOSH, water treatment, commissioning) are beneficial.
Compensation Package
Competitive salary and benefits package.
Opportunities for professional development and career growth.
A collaborative and supportive work environment.
