Carry out all instructions relating to the direct care of residents, as directed by the Care and Nursing team.
Support the promotion of equality for all residents and contribute to their protection and safety at all times. Assist in the ongoing support of residents and others significant to them by enabling residents to maintain their interests, identity, and well-being, and by maintaining contact with those who are important to them.
Support residents during transitions due to changing care requirements. Report any changes in residents' needs to Care and Nursing staff.
Hygiene
* Bath, shower, shave, dress, and undress residents.
* Assist with the care of unconscious and incontinent residents.
* Assist residents confined to bed with their toileting needs, including the use, cleaning, and emptying of bedpans, urinals, and commodes.
* Clean and disinfect hygiene equipment such as bedpans, urinals, commodes, hoists, shower seats, and trolleys.
* Supervise residents in toilets and bathrooms, assisting with hygiene needs as required.
Obtain, transmit, and store information related to the nutritional service within the Care Facility. Provide help and support to residents during meal times, feeding those who are helpless, as directed. Ensure dietary needs are met, including special diets and supplementary drinks, under the guidance of Care and Nursing staff.
Assist residents in maintaining mobility within their immediate environment. Lift and position residents when necessary, and assist with walking and limb exercises. Ensure residents are comfortable whether in beds or chairs. Support recreational activities and diversional therapy.
General Duties
* Manage residents' personal property according to Care Facility policy.
* Care for residents' dentures, glasses, and hearing aids.
* Assist residents in making telephone calls and answer call bells, responding to requests or reporting to Care and Nursing staff. Ensure call bells are within reach and functioning.
* Make occupied and unoccupied beds, and move furniture as needed.
* Assist with the Last Offices and the preparation of the deceased for transfer to the mortuary.
Other Responsibilities
* Attend to spillages immediately to prevent accidents.
* Keep the linen cupboard and store areas tidy and stocked.
* Use correct laundry procedures, including tying and labelling laundry bags.
* Maintain cleanliness of Rooms, Day Rooms, Kitchen, Bathrooms, Sluice Rooms, and Toilets after use.
* Carry out errands as required.
* Report broken items needing repair to the Staff Nurse on duty.
* Greet visitors courteously.
Policies and Procedures
* Familiarize and comply with all Care Facility policies and procedures relevant to your role as a Carer.
* Follow safety regulations in accordance with the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005, maintaining a hazard-free environment.
* Report all incidents and accidents involving yourself, residents, or visitors to the Staff Nurse in charge.
Code of Conduct
* Maintain appropriate appearance and behaviour in line with Care Facility policy.
* Practice good personal hygiene.
Ongoing Training and Meetings
* Attend in-service training as required.
* Hold a Healthcare Assistant FETAC Level 5 qualification or be actively working towards it.
* Take responsibility for your own professional development and updates.
* Attend meetings as directed.
This list is not exhaustive. Care Assistants may be required to perform other duties relevant to the post as assigned by the Staff Nurse or designated person from time to time.
