Your new companyHays has been retained to recruit a Clerk of Works, a multidisciplinary technical services provider delivering engineering, project‑management, and property‑related support for construction, refurbishment, and maintenance projects throughout the region.Your new role* Oversee construction works on‑site to ensure all quality construction, materials, and installations meet required standards, specifications, and performance criteria.* Review drawings, specifications, M&E routing plans, and technical documentation to ensure correct interpretation and compliance with project requirements.* Conduct in‑situ and above‑ceiling inspections to verify correct installation of wiring, containment systems, and services in accordance with design and safety standards.* Monitor and report on the contractor's progress, programme adherence, site activities, variations, and dayworks; maintain detailed site records and a daily diary.* Identify and record unacceptable work, notifying the Design Team promptly and assisting with resolving technical or coordination issues before installation proceeds.* Coordinate with project managers, architects, engineers, and subcontractors to ensure smooth sequencing, compliance, and timely delivery of works.* Implement Permit‑to‑Work procedures and support the management of shutdowns, commissioning, service connections, and interfacing works.* Assist with constructability reviews, identifying potential clashes in mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and containment systems and resolving them early.* Participate in site meetings, local authority inspections, and coordination sessions; provide accurate reports to the Design Team and Engineering Department.* Maintain up‑to‑date schedules of remedial items and ensure all necessary documentation-including "as‑built" and handover materials-is complete.What you'll need to succeed* A recognised apprenticeship in a building or construction craft, with 5 years' practical and supervisory experience on complex building projects.* Strong knowledge of construction contract procedures, including the ability to write clear reports, maintain work records, measure variations, and interpret technical instructions.* Proven ability to read and interpret architects' and engineers' drawings, specifications, and technical documents.* High standard of practical experience in building construction, with strong attention to quality and compliance.* Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office tools used for reporting, documentation, and coordination.* Ability to work independently, use your own initiative, and maintain detailed and accurate site records.* Good general education and the communication skills needed to liaise with project managers, architects, engineers, contractors, local authorities, and internal teams.What you'll get in returnCompetitive salary, Annual leave entitlement12‑month contract with the option to extend for a further 12 monthsOpportunity to work across a diverse portfolio of construction, refurbishment, and infrastructure projects in the Cork/Kerry regionWhat you need to do nowIf you're interested in this role, click 'apply now' to forward an up-to-date copy of your CV, or call us now.If this job isn't quite right for you, but you are looking for a new position, please contact us for a confidential discussion about your career.Hays Ireland is a trading division of Hays Specialist Recruitment (Ireland) Limited and acts as an employment agency for permanent recruitment and employment business for the supply of temporary workers.
